FANTASTIC. DIVERSE. FICTION. Yes. I loved this book. I loved how it embraced the beauty of the many cultures in the US and how they strengthen us. I love that it addresses hate and responds only with overwhelming love. What a simple yet beautiful book. More of this please!

Read for next school year’s Battle of the Books. I love diverse voices in fiction, and especially for young readers. I’m excited about this choice because the school population closely mirrors our own, and I’m curious to see what dialogues and general understanding might come from reading this.

I really enjoyed this story of a young Pakistani-Muslim girl and her desire to be true to herself while also being true to her faith and culture.

It's a heartwarming middle-grade novel about a Pakistani-American girl named Amina.

The plot started off as Amina trying to overcome her fear of public speaking but it gets more complicated later on as it branches out into other themes.

I didn't grow up in the USA but I could still relate to so many things. Amina's feelings, thoughts and worries seemed to resemble my own and it was really nice to read about it in a book.

The whole theme and setting of the story was well done and I liked how it unfolded but the plot was a bit uneven. I wish it had more consistency but it was still a great read!

3.5 rounded up to 4. Cute, positive, thoughtful story. Amina seems to have anxiety. Good for students that struggle with cultural or religious norms that clash with other parts of their lives.

Middle grade.

A wonderful story focused heavily on building community.

Read my review at Bookish Adventures.

Just finished it for the second time and somehow loved this book even more. Hena Khan portrays an amazing picture of community members coming together in moments of crisis, showering love and support towards the minority. This is the America I know and love. Hena Khan mirrors that America in her story of Amina.

So relevant in today's political climate.
