A book with very twisted and dark characters. Trigger warning on cutting.

This book reads as though it’s been made sickly. Not in a weak way; in a fever-dream mania that disquiets you, concerns you. The characters feel infected and unhinged by it, too, of course, this toxic wrongness.

Which I love.

Flynn has the uncanny ability of fashioning living people from a bit of paper and a few pulses of ink. They feel solid and respiring, breathing down your neck as you pant onto the pages. It’s exquisite.

Really more of a 4.5 stars. I couldn’t give it 5 because the ending didn’t hit me like I wanted it to. Swung a bit too low to be a sucker punch.

4.25 stars. what the HELL did I just read?? I loved the way that this book shows the reality of life, I was just so damn disturbed the entire time. Everyone is such a snake and so horrible. I just hated the way everyone used Camille and how she let people use her and it was just so messed up and I just want to punch everyone who’s mean to Camille in the face.

like when John Keene was not disturbed by her scars, man I felt that shit. this book is literally so depressing and sad and just like,, there is nothing happy about this book. Not even a joke that lightens the mood. It literally gave me chills the entire time.

Holy shit. What an amazing read. Your think you know, and you're sure you're right until you learn the truth. About everything in this book.

This is literally a roller-coaster of confusion. But oh man is it worth it. This is my second Flynn novel and she does not disappoint.

I highly recommend her. (On to her second published work to finish her full length novels).
