I give this book points of its uniqueness. The classic Russian Baba Yaga story is rethought into a quirky, fantastical, and downright weird children's book. Plenty of twists and turns and strong writing will appeal to certain readers, but it was just a little too out there for me.

The House with Chicken Legs is a unique take on the old Russian folktale character Baba Yaga, which has always been fascinating to me. I liked everything about this book except perhaps the main character Marinka who was somewhat whiny and reckless throughout the whole book. I kept reminding myself that she's only twelve, but I still wish that she was more clever and caring of her surroundings, especially after her Baba's gone.

On the other hand, I really adored the house as a character and its relationship with Marinka and her animal friends. My favorite part of the book was definitely the big ceremony where all the Yaga gathered together from different parts of the world and had a fun reunion among themselves.

Overall I did like this book. I just wish it explored more about the Yaga and their way of living instead of only focusing on Marinka and her self-absorbed mission.

Really amazing book, so enjoyed the story, so different and interesting, you meet incredible characters as you read, story was.very creative and amazing to read , I cannot wait to read for my this author
