This book really lacked the charm and sense of exploration of the first book. It's a prequel written much later. For what it reveals about the world of Narnia and its making I do not personally think it justifies its existence. Having read the whole series I think this one is skippable.

This was great! I loved seeing where it all began. The fact that we found out how Narnia began seems like an added bonus. And the fact that we got the origins of Jadis... on one hand, it was interesting to know how far back she goes, on the other hand, fuck Jadis. I seriously hate her. I think I hated her more in this book that in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Though I'm rereading the latter soon so we'll know for sure then.

The actual main characters of the story were fine. I didn't particularly like or dislike them. It was the magic and the assholes who made the story interesting.

I know people often reference Lewis' faith but I'd forgotten quite how deeply Christian this book is, having previously read it as a kid.
