This was EXACTLY what I wanted. A perfect, lighthearted fantasy romance. I was giggling at almost every page for the first 25% and smiling my way through this book.

DID NOT FINISH

Honestly, I have no idea why I did finish it. I remember it fondly. I think it just found me at the wrong time or something

3.75-4 stars. Quickie review: This was really good. Great worldbuilding, unique and an interesting story. Both H and h thought the other were very ugly (different species), but still liked each other right away and had an instant connection. I liked this couple a lot. Slow burn, but enjoyable.

Honestly, I thought this would be bad, but it wasn't. Actually enjoyable and something different. A great palate cleanser.

Book 1/ 12 Picks from 12 Friends

Holy moly the gold standard of marriage of convenience, friends to lovers! The main characters were engaging and hilarious and their banter was TOP NOTCH. I deeply loved that they could be such good friends first! Their meet-cute is also to DIE FOR. I am both curious and not about the rest of the series - while the world-building is engaging. I am not sure my heart can take these two going through more!

This book was so easy to read and my version of cozy. It’s a sweet arranged marriage. They meet the day of the wedding. They are honest with each other and become friends. The friendship becomes attraction and love as they navigate Prince Brishen’s political landscape. The mother in law (the Queen) is a real nightmare and the epilogue is jaw dropping. I’m excited to read the next book.

2025 reread and still one of my favorite books. This is a marriage of convenience to friends to lovers book. This book ends on a cliffhanger.

To me this is the ultimate palette cleanser. The love story is sweet, the FMC and MMC
are friends before they become lovers, and the world building is good. The only gripe I had was that there is no tension for 75% of the book - hence the perfect palette cleanser. This book sets the stage - politically, romantically, socially - for the upcoming books.
