4.5/5 ⭐ This reminded me a little of some sort of ballad. The main characters were super unproblematic and very good almost flawless which was really refleshing. I really enjoyed the idea that they found each other ugly since they were a different specie. 😂 Also for once this really was a friends to lovers thrope done right. ☺️ Which I am infinity times grateful for. My only complaint is that it felt too low stakes. Or maybe like this and the 2nd book could be a single book 😊 But I loved it too much to give it less than 4.5 ⭐

I’m DNFing this one at 14%. No idea why it’s 4 stars. The concept is interesting but the writing style bothers me. It reads very choppily and the transitions between events seemed abrupt and awkward. Additionally, there were inconsistencies between the two main character’s POVs/experiences. To each their own I guess..

I was drawn in by Grace Draven's writing from the first chapter, but the way she made Brishen a cinnamon roll warrior ... yes! The romance in this book is sweet and gentle. The fantasy elements were done well ... not too complex and easy to follow. The queen *scoffs* ...
The only complaint I had was I wanted more interactions and tension to build up between them. Everything between them was subtle and it went from 0-100 in two chapters.
