I thoroughly enjoyed this book. All of it, even (maybe especially) the weird parts. The best thing about reading this, however, is learning that the Lois Club is a real thing. I am better off for knowing that chapters of the Lois Club exist almost everywhere. Three cheers for Lois(es)!

In theory, it should be a perfect book for me. I love magical realism, I like baking, I love sourdough starters, I work a corporate tech job, I want to do what I love and not what makes me the most money.

However, the book throws in all the tension in the last 20 pages and nothing happens throughout. There are no stakes; she succeeds - cool she's selling bread at a market, she fails - oh well, she has a high paying job to fall back on.

The emails between Beo and Lois were too one sided. I did not care at all about his story. I didn't care where he was and his music or his brother. Not one bit. That's a real shame.

What a strange little book that examines our relationships with food and the connection that food can bring with others. I’m not sure who I would recommend it too. Maybe someone who loves baking and a bit of magical realism.

At first I thought this book would be some sort of lesson about the dangers of technology or how the tech start up lifestyle is harmful, or just a love letter to San Francisco, or even an updated "Under the Tuscan Sun".

I did not really expect the ending and I feel like it was rather rushed. I would have liked to see this fleshed out a bit more.
