Was this a predictable, formulaic romantic comedy/chick-lit novel? Yes. Is that why I liked it? Yes. It’s not pretending to be anything it's not and was an entertaining read. Emma was a good balance of relatable and quirky--not too quirky where it felt shoved in the reader’s face. There’s not much else for me to say except that it was funny, entertaining fluff that felt relatable and good for a quick read. I wanted to give it 5 stars, but it was missing just a little *something extra* outside the typical formula that would have pushed it over 4.75 for me.

4.25

This book is not my kind of thing at all, not even my genre and I am definitely not its target audience. It was a Secret Santa present and I wasn't looking forward to reading it, however, I enjoyed it and it made me laugh at times (and really cringe at others). I wasn't bored and wanted to read to the end. It's a bit daft and contrived at times, but it isn't trying to be a great piece of fiction - it is what it is. It is heavily influenced by Bridget Jones. I did have a nit-pick that the main character Emma sounded pretty crap at her job and seemed to fanny around trying to look busy whilst not actually doing much but expects promotion
Spoilerand ends up getting it!
and wondered if she was going to end up moving into a career that suited her talents more, but no, that didn't come into it at all (I was probably taking it far too seriously!).
Spoiler I did expect the themes for a younger generation of readers (whom I assume this was aimed at - even one 20 odd years ago) would have had a little about Emma's personal growth and (earned) prospects, but no, it was basically about her ending up with a handsome multimillionaire (same old, same old)

I probably won't rush to read more by Sophie Kinsella, but I did enjoy this one.

Finally I've finished a book!! It's been weeks of DNF's so it feels good to actually finish a book! and this was so much fun to listen to.

I was apprehensive when I found out this book was published in 2003 (too long along for my brain to comprehend, lol) but apart from a few out-dated pop culture references, such as upgrading a car for a CD player and a character "two-timing" a person, it didn't read to be 22 years old, yay!!

It follows our main character Emma who in a bid to distract her from severe turbulence during a flight she reveals ALL her secrets to a stranger sat next to her on a plane. That stranger....the CEO of the company she just started at.

Through keeping secrets & a budding romance, awkward situations start to arise (aka some of my favourite things in books) and there were definitely laugh out loud moments. I can definitely see Sophie Kinsella's DNA of humour sprinkled through-out this book.

I enjoyed the characters and the plot. The romance felt a little flat, I didn't really feel any chemistry between the 2 love interests and the ending felt a little rushed but other all it was a fun time.

Another sweet, page-turning contemporary rom-com in book form. Great “vacation read” when you want to feel sweetness and laugh. Follows the typical romance story arc but isn’t heavy on the romance... it’s more domestic.

One star is generous. The main character is an entitled 20 something who couldn't boil water who has to have "mind blowing" sex with a 50 something man in order to grow her own spine. Blech.
