Overall, okay. The sci-fi action was good, the romance was missing, and I didn't really feel anything for the characters except annoyance at the jerk of a hero. I'll go back to her UF series. :)

EDIT: I see that I did read the second book and gave it a 4 star, so... :)

I might be bias...

So a friend sent this to me a couple years ago because he had gotten the e-book for free on amazon, started reading it and there were some kinda scary similarities to the writing he and I do together; a main character called Caleb who Captains a ship, hates his dad, loves drinking and sex, excellent fighter but a little self destructive... so that's why I started reading. There were more similarities throughout the story but they're spoiler-y so I won't go on. Anyway - that alone made me read the whole thing within a couple days, and probably because my friend and I were reading it simultaneously and talking about how the characters were similar to our own....

but I actually really did enjoy this. Which was surprising considering it was free, and I think it still is (at least the e-book version) on amazon. The characters are interesting, it's got a good pace that keeps you interested, an easy, enjoyable read with a twist ending that had me IMMEDIATELY buying the second book to continue reading.

It's also inspired me to continue writing my own novel so... that's good as well!!

I'm not sure how to review this book. I did enjoy reading it but it didn't blow me away making me want more.
I think I need to go back and reread the least chapter. I was pretty tired when I finished it and it seemed to end very abruptly.
I have no attachment to any of the characters which is unusual for me. I'll give book 2 a try but I have a feeling it might be a DNF... hopefully I'm wrong.

This is not my cup of tea. I'm on board with the violence and sex, but not a fan of addiction storylines (not huge here, but definitely present). The anti-hero flavor given to all the characters just doesn't sit right for some reason--I never really enjoyed any of the them. The space stuff and cyborg/clone stuff (not really sure what to call it) was fine, but not enough to hold my attention.

This book may have been one of the more surprising ones I've read all year. From the description I thought it would be a fun, light, easy read (which is was), but I was also surprised by how much I ended up caring about the characters and investing in their choices. At first Cale seemed like a run of the mill brooding tough guy but once you realize the events in his past that made him that way and affect the narrative even now, he turns out to be much more three-dimensional. Likewise with Fran and One Thousand And One. To be completely honest, I started out not expecting much. As I continued to read I thought, "This is pretty good for a cheesy, melodramatic space opera." And by the time I was finished with the book, I thought, "This is pretty good science fiction, full stop." I'm really looking forward to checking out the next book in the series, and seeing what else this author has done.

The low rating is probably because I read this while watching twitch so I forgot much of what I read and did not follow the story that good. Still think this series have alot of potential.

I knew going in I was going to like this book, and I was right. I had fears that the characters would be lacking because this is a short book, but that wasn't the case at all.

Well written characters. Everyone is complicated. Who's the good guy? It's hard to tell. Love that. Adventure, quest for redemption, family issues. This book has it all.

Is it a romance? I really don't know. There's plenty of spicy scenes, but after finishing book 1 I still don't know if we are reading a love story or not, and I'm ok with it. I can't wait to read the rest of this series.

Definitely shouldn't be categorized as a romance, but an interesting, quick sci-fi story with interesting characters.
