I read this on my phone, hence why it took me so long to read! (I was basically reading it when I didn't have a physical book with me. It is no reflection on how incredible the book is.) What an eye opening and real account of the ways in which society treats queer/trans people - especially those who visually don't fit into a box - and the toll it has on mental health. It's devastating how much this rings true with what is happening today - it literally could have been written yesterday. At a time when trans rights are being eroded and trans people are being demonised, this book is needed more than ever.

very important book. i’m glad i read it. well written, this rating is a reflection of how much i personally enjoyed reading it. i found it difficult at times bc it was so sad and challenging but that was an important part of it. just took me a while to get through.

This is not for the faint of heart and I trust anyone who goes in to read it to know all the content warnings and what is to be covered. Even as someone who already accepts themselves as gay, this book is framed in a frank and earnest way about, while a fictional story, things that did occur and the history that sits before the 2000s. It was hard to read at times, but it is supposed to be.
