WTF is this for ableist, racist, sexist crap. Making the only black and disabled character into a stereotypical villain. And nobody seems so have called the author out about this yet, that I've seen? The whole book long I hoped it would be the plot twist, that she'd turn out to be the good one in the end. But none of it. Just racist descriptions of her as the "voodoo queen" and ableist descriptions of her blind eyes as a horror spectacle. What a boring one dimensional stereotypes repeating fuck of a book this is. Don't read it.

2 stars for the attempt. But halfway through I gave up. It is not the same. It will never be the same.
Also, there are some aspects that are too much out of character I just could not overlook.
Oh. And BTW, too many American people.

I was pleasantly surprised by this "piece of fan fiction". If you miss Harry Potter it's a fun read.

This was an excellent book and a must-read for anyone who was upset at the end of the harry potter series just because it had ended. The plotline is interesting with many twists and turns and is different from the harry potter series except for a few parts.... I am glad that I read this book and will continue to read the series.

While it is not by J.K. Rowling, this was a brilliant piece of literature true to the series wee fell in love with and helped ease some of my Post Potter Syndrome while leaving me wanting more.

First "fan fiction" I've ever read, and it was pretty good. Follows the adventures of James Potter (Harry"s son) and his two buddies in their first year at Hogwarts. American wizards, Merlin, and Slytherins, oh my! Is not as tightly crafted or as tense as what I remember from reading the Harry Potter series, but is probably akin to Rowling's early books in style and readability. Hopefully the author will continue writing and continue improving as a writer, just as did Rowling. I enjoyed Elder's Crossing. quite a bit.

I was skeptical of how another author might be able to extend the adventures of Harry Potter. These are big shoes to fill, after all. But someone on Twitter recommended the book/series so I thought I'd give it a try.

I loved the way the book began. Lippert immediately grabbed my attention and began reeling me in. He imaginatively introduced changes to Hogwarts that allowed the story to be believable and go in many new directions.

I loved part of the new plot with explaining how magic works, weaving that in to the resolution. I was a tiny disbelieving having first years and fifth years in the same class, but that was a minor criticism.

My biggest disappointment was Mr. Dolohov. That part comes out of left field and was not an effective element of the story. Yes, it explains how that part happened, but I'd rather have seen the author resolve it more coherently with the rest of the book. It just felt tacked on to an already great story.

My first, and probably last foray into fanfic. I'm about 65% through and I just can't finish it right now. It's interesting to see the author's imagined wizarding world a generation after Harry, but it just isn't worth reading when I have so many other good books waiting for me.
