Everything I could’ve asked for in a post-Harry Potter world. I love the new classes and the added lore, and seeing Harry developed as an adult character.
I think that this could have been a good book had it not been a Harry Potter fanfiction. The story was too similar to the Harry Potter series. And while the combination of magic and science could have been done well- I've seen this done in other books, all excellent- but it does not fit well within the Harry Potter universe.
I do like the plot with the Muggle reporter, though. It's something to think about, and that subplot was worked well into the overall plot. Also, Tabitha Corsica is an interesting character, who makes me want to read the next book despite being disappointed by this one. Her belief that Voldemort was good, that the Battle of Hogwarts, and all of his crimes are lies, are very similar to a current belief that the Holocaust never happened. If only to see how she changes as a antagonist, I think I'll read the next book.

This was a nice little distraction for a bit, but it became tedious after a while. I think it would have been better had the author not tried so hard to tweak his own writing style to mimic J.K. Rowling's. He is definitely not Rowling, and while I normally enjoy fan fiction, I like it for its uniqueness. This did not have enough uniqueness to make me feel as though he was not trying too hard.
Book #22 Read in 2017
James Potter and the Hall of Elders' Crossing by G. Norman Lippert
This is a series that features Harry Potter's son James. This is the first book in the series. In this book, James begins his studies at Hogwarts and follows in his father's footsteps with making good friends, getting in some trouble and having to solve some mysteries. This book stayed true to the feel of Harry Potter and I think Harry Potter fans will find it enjoyable.

Dear America-Man Whose Name I Can't Be Fucked Remembering,
You are not JK Rowling. This published fanfic drivel is not canon, nor is it on par with fanfiction written by REAL fans (that being, fans who don't fuck up basic canon details like where Ravenclaw Tower is).
Get out of my Hogwarts. You're muddying up the place with filthy American teachers students for your Tri Wizard Tournament (nice plot device skills, bro).
Also, why is there a professor teaching the SCIENCE of magic? Is it just so you have an excuse to bombard us with bullshit info dumps that hold zero relevancy to Rowling's Wizarding World?
Seriously mate - fuck off. Hogwarts is NOT for muggles or Americans. You have the Salem Institute, stay there. ⚡️

Not a bad pastiche. Actually, one of the better ones. It does a very good job capturing the feel of the Harry Potter world, and James is much like Harry in many ways (There are actually, if you look closely, so many parallels between Harry's first year and James' first year!). The idea of the American Embassy was interesting, if a bit underdeveloped, and both familiar and new characters were mostly well-written. Plot was intriguing, if a bit hard to follow if only because the writing in some areas could be better. It's hard, I believe, to write a mystery like Rowling writes a mystery - that is, set up clues and have the characters believably come to the right or wrong conclusions, and then poof it all up at the end to reveal what was really going on - but I believe this author achieves it splendidly.
However, there are several things I would like to address. The first thing is the Harry's character. He wasn't terrible, but let me tell you this: he was not Harry Potter. I simply cannot imagine Harry Potter saying things like "my boy." It makes him sound more like Slughorn. He's understanding, perhaps, but he displays none of the wisdom I imagine he gathered through the sixth and seventh book of HP as well as the wisdom I imagine he would have learned from the rest of his life. I also can't imagine him not telling his son a few key things, such as Ted's father being a werewolf. I also can't imagine him specifically inviting James to a meeting with the American Ambassadors. I know James is Harry's son, but what? Perhaps I missed something there. Finally, I can't see Harry lambasting his own son for not knowing how to open the Room of Requirements considering Harry didn't even know about the Room of Requirements in his first year, and then use that as a reason for James to not go running around saving the world.
Second, the writing was hard to follow. I'm not the only one who has said "he's not Rowling," and of course that's okay. But there are some parts where the action seems to be obfuscated. I'm a rather fast reader, but the writing has to be clear in order for me to read quickly, or else I miss things. And that's what happened here.
Third, a little on the continuum. There were a couple of things which the author touched upon which I thought odd because Jo herself had touched on those same objects and they appear to conflict. Unfortunately, I can't think of any examples right now except for James' personality - on the train in the epilogue, it seemed more like James had James' (Harry's father, that is) personality - extremely optimistic to the point of recklessness, popular, natural leader, prankster, and above all, sure of himself. It is possible, of course, that this personality came as a result of this year's activities, but it just seemed to me that something was off.
I admit that in the end, most of these 'complaints' are simply opinions. Some may say that I am not letting the author write his story but rather I am complaining and telling him how to write my story. Perhaps this is true. In that case, I will shut up and tip my hat to a great story and one of the best pastiches I have ever read.

A truly great bit of fan fiction. The author is very talented and brings the wizard world to life that Rowling created. I look forward to reading more from this author. If his original works are anything like his fan fiction they will be amazing.
Super cute fanfic. The writing is not the best in the world, but I liked the story.
