If you miss the Harry Potter series, this is a good series to read. I would say that it retain perhaps 95% of the magic of the Harry potter series. Completely worth it!
As a child, I would imagine myself in a large castle where magic reigns. Equipped with a magic wand I imagined I could levitate objects, see into the future, and transfigure objects into animals. On my eleventh birthday, I awaited a letter that I knew would never come. Harry Potter brought those dreams to life. Although I myself would never perform these feats, J.K. Rowling performed them on the page.
James Potter and the Hall of Elders' Crossing is an epilogue of the well reknown Harry Potter series. Based on the characters created by J.K. Rowling, author G. Norman Lippert brings the characters off the page in a continued story about a boy who lives in his father's shadow, trying to live up to expectations, while making his own legend.
In this book, people will explore the halls of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry once again. Although written by a different author, I believe that this first book of a trilogy is written with as much accuracy and precision as J.K. Rowlings works. The style of writing is spectacular and this book is very similar in dynamics to the great Harry Potter series as well as Witch and Wizard, and other wonderful books. (Hunger Games, Before I Fall, Along for the Ride) I recommend this book to all the readers who enjoy fantasy.

This has made me rethink my disdain of fan fiction. It has reflections of Rowling, but obviously the author was not trying to imitate her. Inspired work. I will read on. True to the Potter universe and full of fun and adventure. I highly recommend this story!
Has a similar feel to the HP books it's based on and more magic to discover. The writing wasn't always great though, he was laying it on a bit thick from time to time.
The book is terrible. I am a great fan of fanfiction, and love how so many authors out there have taken JKR's world and added to it, so that now many intricate details from their stories are as familiar and natural as canon to me. This book, however, was a disappointment in every sense - dealing with Next Generation character development is hard enough, but the author tried to bring in an American influence, and it just didn't ring true.
Everything seemed false. Either go with "Slytherins or evil", or go with "Slytherins have changed since Harry's time and are now awesome". This was more of a "They seem nice, but with an aura of evil, but still nothing to protest about." Very unconvincing.
The only slightly interesting parts were how James dealt with his father's fame, being the first child to attend Hogwarts, but even that wasn't taken in an interesting direction.
And lastly, Ted Lupin and his "pranks". The author has tried way, waay too hard to replicate feelings we had for the marauders. "Wockets" seemed forced, and brought more of a grimace than a laugh. I have read numerous fanfictions where laughing at the Marauders' pranks was as easy as breathing.
So, to sum up:
Don't read this fanfiction. Just because it is available in book format, doesn't mean it should be.

Was a welcome diversion to enter the Hogwarts universe with perhaps more innocence than we saw at the end of the HP series. Quite enjoyed it. Remarkably true to the vision of JK Rowling, in my opinion.
This was entertaining. Although it was more because I am a Harry Potter fan then the writting itself. But hey with no new Harry Potters coming out this was better then quiting cold turkey.
An interesting "sequel" to Rowlings works. It ties in well. I think I'll hunt up the rest of his series.
