3.5 stars.

Meh. It was okay, not as good as I was expecting it to be.

The book starts off really silly but gets progressively better towards the end. Or maybe I just got used to the silliness before the end.

The main problem I have with the book is that it tries too hard. The author tries to explain each and every small behavioural trait that she or her dogs have and desperately tries to make them funny. Most of the time the jokes fall flat, but once in a while, they hit home and when they do, they hit hard.

In summary, silly above average book that is hilarious in parts and daft in others.

I love Allie's blog, and true to form I loved her book. I'm so glad she published it!

Her writing on what depression feels like is amazing and, for me, spot-on. Her stories about the Simple Dog are extra funny now that I have my own special dog. And of course there's her artwork. I love it!

I remember reading the blog years ago. Allie Brosh certainly has a knack for describing her life in a hilarious way.

Very funny. Loved the chapters about the dogs and really enjoyed the comics.

Parts about the dogs were funny. Lots of the personal stuff was intended to be written in an amusing way, but I felt sad for how much she clearly struggles with her mental health and the complicated sides of ADHD, like impulsive thinking and rejection sensitivity. The self-judgement over her impulsive thinking and intrusive thoughts was sad.

I’m counting this as a reread. I discovered the original blog in the twenty teens and laughed almost just as much at this book. The humor and vulnerability are timeless. The skill with language make it a work of art. This is a delight and a must-have to sit and laugh and take a break from the world.

If you have a friend going through depression and you want to know what it's like, read this book. Allie Brosh describes it so succinctly and in a way that makes you laugh as well. There are many other hilarious stories pertaining to her life and her dogs as well, but I urge everyone to read the book based on Depression Part One and Depression Part Two.

I’ve loved Allie Brosh for probably 13 years and had never grabbed this book until now. 10/10, still absolutely slaps, no notes.
