I think the shine is coming off the apple for me on this series. I did like this installment - but not a really like, and not a love - just a like. It all seems to be getting a bit repetitive with no major advancements on the overall story arc. Things are just moving too slow for me.

This installment had the usual mysteries of the day - naked dead man with the raging hard-on in Charley's front seat, Ring-esque creepy abused dead girl by the tram. There was mention of Charley's family troubles, Mr. Wong's "power" , Angel's Mommy issues and Ubie's love life (actually Ubie's love life got fairly top billing). There was more Charley being a fairly ineffectual Grim Reaper - although she did figure out another ability (marker of souls) which was pretty cool. More dropping of mysterious prophecy tidbits - which is all fairly vague - although the new player in town is pretty cool.

Charley and Reyes move forward in their relationship - and this is the part I don't get - Reyes should be double ticking all my boxes. He is the enigmatic, violent yet vulnerable, possessive, oozing dangerousness alpha - son of Satan. Literally. He should corner the market on BAMF-ery...my kind of guy...and yet...ehhh. I just don't feel he's all that well developed of a character. And he and Charley - not feeling the chemistry. Never really have, truth be told - but it isn't ratcheting up a notch either. The sex scenes I have to say - are pretty underwhelming.

I'm sure my growing disillusionment with Charley isn't helping either. Her constant efforts towards irreverent, quirky humor (if that's what they're calling it these days) is finally starting to wear on me. She's not that funny. The story did seem to pick up bit towards the last 20%. At this point, I'm in 6 deep so there's no way out but foreward.

I have to be in the right mood for them, but these books are a lot of fun when I am. The heroine is completely over the top ADHD and ridiculous, but that's what makes her so much fun.

I absolutely love the humour in these books, every quote before each chapter are genius but unfortunately I didn't love this one as much as the others. I didn't care about the hostage threat or how it ended tbh it certainly didn't have enough punch imo unlike the others. I loved Charley and Cookies attempts to male Ubie jealous and as always I love the scenes with Garrett (spin off hopes).
Cliffhanger is a big noooooo from me, I hate it when babies are added to the mix

I can count the number of books that made me laugh out loud on one hand and this book (and series) is one of them. As always, another strong read that you know will be filled with mystery, danger, sexy times, and excitement. Looking forward to the next one!

My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

“Charley brings out the worst in all of us. It’s not her fault.”
“He’s right,” I said. “I have a condition.”

Charley’s back and busier than ever. She’s investigating a case of child abduction for the FBI and the child is none other than Reyes Farrow. She’s forced into finding a witness scheduled to testify after armed gunmen break into her home and threaten her. She’s helping a man get his soul back after he lost it in a poker game, trying to figure out why her dad is acting so mysterious and also dealing with her other full-time of being a grim reaper. Charley certainly has her hands full.

I can’t tell you how wonderful it feels having a new Charley Davidson book to read. I won’t likely ever be complaining that this series has gone on for far too long because Charley is such an entertaining and snarky character with some of the most hilariously witty lines I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading. She’s up to her same shenanigans, going outside of her way to help people to her own detriment, but this is the Charley we’ve all grown to know and love.

”Imagine a canvas bathed completely in black. Only black. There is no shape. No purpose other than to bring darkness. Then splash on a brilliant white. Add some reds and blues, some yellows and greens. Suddenly it has meaning. It has a reason to exist. That is what you have to my world.”

Charley and Reyes is one of my favorite aspects of this series. <3 The steaminess continues and I love how well-developed and non-corny their romance is written. It’s authentic and genuine and you can feel the emotions that the two have for each other radiate off the page.

Such as how it was in Fifth Grave Past the Light, Sixth Grave manages to somehow end on an even bigger shocker of a cliffhanger. As much as I despise cliffhangers though, this one has much more to do with the main storyline and gives me hope that the books will begin focusing on that aspect more. Plus, we only have six short months until Seventh Grave and No Body is released so I suppose I can scrounge up some patience.

As much as I enjoyed this installment, because come on it’s Charley after all, it felt very filler-y. There wasn’t nearly as much progression in the ongoing grim-reaper storyline as I would have liked and there was not only too much time spent on the side mysteries but there were far too many of them that became a bit convoluted. There were also many questions introduced but not a lot of answers. Charley is forever a favorite of mine but Sixth Grave on the Edge felt unfortunately like the weakest installment yet.

Sixth Grave on the Edge ended with a bang! I'm honestly a bit stunned that this book ended the way it did. I'm still concerned about Reyes although he is slowly growing on me again. I just hate all the secrets!!! You would think that he want Charley to be at her full strength to protect herself. She keeps nearly dying, and he is just content to swoop in and save the day. It makes me kind of hate him. I'm hoping that the little bombshell at the end changes the way he treats Charley. 3.5 out of 5 stars.

And I who thought the ending of book 5 was evil, ha, this was so evil too. Eeeeevil! Evil authors are so good! They make you want more, and at the same time, it was not a cliffie it was just a moment of OMG.

Charley has been asked the big question. But should she marry Reyes? YES! YOU MUST MARRY THE SON OF SATAN! I mean come on, he is droolworthy and he wants you. Sure, loving him might destroy the universe but who cares, he is hot!

If we forget the hotness of Reyes for a moment. The big is also about some baddies after her, some demon business (liked him!), Cookie wanting more from Charley's uncle and the usual this and that from dead people.

And then there was Reyes and all was glorious. *coughs* Sorry my mind wandered for a moment.

All you need to know is that you really should read this series.

I read my first Charley Davidson book earlier this year and was hooked. While on vacation with my inlaws I laughed so hard, out loud, while reading one of these that my mother-in-law was worried I was loosing it.

Darynda Jones, I am so sad it took me so long to find you and Charley and the gang but I am so glad that I did.

Sixth Grave on the Edge was exactly what I wanted it to be. Suspenseful, hilarious, sassy, sarcastic, sexy and fun to read. I love Charley and her crazy life - her crazy friends and family. I may have a crush on her man, I mean holy hell is he hot (pun in tended).

Another fun and exciting read in the serious, I can't wait to see what happens next.
