this totally missed the Jane Eyre mark.

...but can we talk about how I scanned the COVER of this book and Goodreads found it?! WE ARE IN THE FUTURE.

The art is gorgeous, but it's a rather uninspired interpretation of Jane Eyre, with extremely implausible plot and not much in the way of character development.

I will never like the story of Jane Eyre.

That twist was out of no where holy cow.

This was beautifully and effectively illustrated (dynamic spreads, colors used to heighten mood), and the story was okay, but felt creepier than Jane Eyre because it's modern day and a young twenty-something falling for an enigmatic and emotionally damaged middle-aged millionaire was kind of gross, really.

Ooh! That was fun! Spectacular artwork.

Now, I have not read Jane Eyre *ducks incoming projectiles*, so I don't have a basis for comparison on this modern-day graphic adaptation of Charlotte Brontë's original story. However, I would say I saw this as a quick'n'dirty introduction to the story.

The artist's treatment of the subject felt rushed, though the art was quite nice. It made me want to read the original novel, because none of the characters were particularly well developed nor did I really feel much of anything for them. Clearly the artist felt inspired by the original but I didn't really see what she was trying to do.

I enjoyed it because it was concise and pretty, but that's more or less it. Disappointed.

Okay.
I liked the illustrations of the ballerinas in one scene.
That was about it.
I felt like it was too rushed, I didn't like the illustrations of Rochester, and I didn't like how it developed. Also, taking away Rochester's mistakes in the whole story and thus taking away his redemption? I feel like that's one of the integral parts of Jane Eyre!
Jane felt flat and that's just sad. Jane should *appear* flat but hide multitudes inside her - that was the point of the book!!
Ugh.
Okay rant over.

This one mostly amounts to taste. The comic was beautiful and well written, but I just do not care for Jane Eyre that much.
