Complete and utter perfection!! The way that I ate this book up!!! I absolutely love Ira and Merit! She needed love and he needed a sense of purpose and the way that they complete each other made my heart melt! I love how he made her struggles valid and stood up for her even when she didn’t realize she needed him to. The amount of emotional intelligence and devotion this man has made me want him to be real! He never pushed her past her limits and always spoke life into her. The things Merit went through in her life made me want to hold her! She deserves every single moment of happiness she received. I received this as an arc and i absolutely love it! From start to finish. The writing, the plot, the characters it was all well thought out. This is what love and basketball should have been. Pure without the toxicity! The epilogue was also amazing! The way they both achieved their goals and the way he still puts her first!!! Ira is a man after my own heart!! The way she still relies on him emotionally!!! Even though she now knows her worth and has more confidence! I loved this book so much!! This also made me want a promise ring! He was so steadfast and honest about his intentions!!!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️
I was lucky enough to receive an arc copy of this book from the author!!! This was my first time reading Adorabol Huckleby-Ordaz’s book and will absolutely not be the last time either!!!!
On Merit Alone was an amazing read definitely worth 5 stars and more!!! I fell in love with this book and the main characters Merit Jones and Ira King, it was a beautiful testament of love for oneself and others.
This book follows Merit Jones and Ira King who are both basketball players in the WNBA and NBA respectively. This was a beautiful slow burn romance that made me excited to see what would come next. Seeing Merit slowly fall in love with Ira and come out of her shell to be person she always wanted was amazing. Ira has definitely entered my top 10 book boyfriends list. The way that he loved her and only wanted what was best for her was beautiful.
I can’t wait to get my hands on the physical copy when this book officially releases on August 6th. I hope everyone reads it, I promise you won’t be disappointed!!!

I feel like Ordaz captures the reality of being a black girl who isn't always bubbly, smiling or happy. She allows Merit to be intense but still show that she is multifaceted and allowed to feel many things at once. Merit is like looking in the mirror in the way she processes her emotions and seeing her be loved with all her "faults" was so beautiful to see. Ira didn't want to change her, he wanted her to love every piece of herself, the good and the bad, as he did and that was my favorite part of it all. When she felt insecure that he didn't like "her" in all her being, her intensity and "coldness", he reassured her. Such a beautiful couple and such a touching book in my opinion. Loved it!

Arc Reader Review: Thank you so much to Adorabol for the arc!
I had such a great time reading this. A great slow burn with banter, possessive MMC, shy girl/popular guy and both main character are the basketball stars! Ira had me kicking my feet giggling multiple times. His commitment and patience with Merit was so sweet to read. There were so many times I wish I could jump into the book and give Merit a hug. She deserves every bit of the gentle, unwavering love Ira shows her. I love all the team banter and scenes with Ira’s family as well. I do wish there was just a bit more of a conflict to progress the story, but if you just want to read about 2 people falling in love this is the one for you ! Even with some heavy topics of grief this book just feels hopeful and makes you believe in soulmates.

It’s the way I knew my rating from only 17%. Yes, the review is a little late, but that’s on me; I had the dates mixed up and never double checked. But I loved this book so much. Just the way Ira went out of his way, even though Merit was kind of an ice queen, to help her, and just the story of the two of them was just so heartwarming, and once again, I am honored to have received an arc and read it when I did.
