This book was such a cute read . I love Ira and Merit so much . The things he’d say to her had me swooningggfgff 😭 however we got one negative that kinda impacted how I ranked….this book had no business being 500+ pages. Could’ve cut down at least 200 of them and the story would’ve had the same effect. I really started skimming a bit at the 65% mark. I would still recommend this cause it was extremely cutee. Other than that this was what love & basketball should’ve been lol .

Well that might be the sweetest story ever. We get a bit of heat, a lot of heart, and some great laughs. I loved the scenes with Ira's teammates and family cause they are hoot. I feel like this really needed some editing as certain scenes got bogged down by excessive descriptions and rehashing, but the narrative managed to keep me engaged anyway. There were times where Ira was giving cave man vibes, but he gets over it pretty quick  and turns into a dream book boyfriend.

I can’t even find the words to sum up how much I loved this story. This was a DELICIOUS slow burn and such a heartfelt sports romance (with almost no spice). Ira King, welcome to the book bae hall of fame👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾! Affirming. Attentive. A protector. Patient. Kind. Emotionally intelligent. All the things. He was just what Merit needed…even though (because of her trauma) she made him put in extra work for her love & trust lol. All of the characters are likable and you’re rooting for Merit & Ira from day 1. The book is lengthy, but it doesn’t feel that way because the characters have good chemistry & banter and you’re easily wrapped up into their lives. It was a pleasure having a front row seat to Merit’s healing journey, and Ira’s journey to figuring out who he is off the court. I do also like how the author highlights sexism in Women’s sports, & even the struggle that Black women face in the workplace if we don’t come off as smiley and more “palatable”.

I surprisingly enjoyed my time with this book so much, I just wish it was a tad bit shorter. Some of the topics it tackled became a bit repetitive due the length.
