Addictive read. Does not pass the Bechdel Test. Like, at all. But it was still really fun to read, even I kept feeling like "why isn't anyone talking about identity and privilege intersectionality?"

Also, I found some of the idiosyncratic mannerisms (sudden obsession with sweets, penchant for chocolate bars, obliviousness to a boyfriend's indifference) a little distracting, although I found Matsuda pretty endearing. I would totally watch a buddy cop movie with Matsuda and Aizawa.

Say what you will about the anime, but the manga is perfect. The introduction of Near works here and he is a compelling character.

Awesome series that forces readers to ask a few central questions about what is right and what is wrong. Full of twists and turns, Death Note takes readers to a new level of terror (What if you had the power to kill someone at any time by simply knowing their face and name? What if you could be killed at any moment by someone who only knew your face and name?) A definite psychological thriller that keeps readers on edge at all times.

My middle school crush got me severely into Death Note in year of our lord 2008 when it was first translated. At any given moment tell any dipshit who will listen that they should consider reading or watching death note. Lifelong fan of this insane, arguably bad, media.
