I didn't like the characterization. Most of the female characters have suffered some kind of abuse at the hands of men. It comes of as a crutch for the author. I did not enjoy it.

I thought this book would go deeper into murder mystery but it really didn't. It was like Great British Baking Show that just so happened to be a murder mystery.
A co-host dies at the very end, but the main host had a secret of killing her childhood chef. That chef's daughter, who lived at the house too, returns decades later to be on this show to try and find out what happened to her "missing" mom. But that was basically the last quarter of the book. Before it was just GBBS character development of the other contestants.
It was good, would maybe read again, just not what I thought it would be.

I thought it was fun, easy, somehow both relaxing and tense because of it's clear 50/50 combination of GBBO and murder mystery. The plot was a bit predictable, if not from the very beginning, at least from chapter to chapter. I loved how much it leaned into the specifics of Bake Off but agree with other reviews that I found myself hoping for British accents in the audiobook! Some of the characters seemed thrown in for plot without enough development or connection to the rest of the book. I would recommend to someone wanting an easy escape with a bit of suspense/mystery that isn't too stressful.
