This book gets an easy 5 stars from the very beginning. The characters and their relationships are complex, the writing style is brilliant, and the plot gets more and more intriguing with every page. I was worried that the end was going to be disappointing, but I enjoyed it all the way through, and it was an ending that held true to the characters.

Loved the premise of this book! Imagine Scooby-Doo set in 1635, so it has a familiar feel with the whole “think it’s a monster but it’s really a person” build up. My one complaint was the ending. Considering how detailed everything was, the ending felt very rushed and didn’t feel consistent with the character’s personalities. I don’t feel like the choice they made was actually doing right by the hundreds of people who died. Quite frankly, it just doesn’t seem like something Sara and Arent would have been ok with leading up to the end of the story, so it was confusing that they were so quick to go along with it.

Overall, great book. I was just highly disappointed in the last 50 pages.
