For a book that i received  as part of a mystery  book subscription,  I am quite happy .  I am however  also traumatised and never expected to read the words mossy clitous  at 9am on a Monday morning.

Dispite  that trauma  inducing  line , I was expecting  a botanical  horror but got a profound story about  queerness and found family  instead  and I didn't hate it. I couldn't help but feel sorry for CHLOE 🥺

The concept of this book really drew me to it but I feel like the overall execution was poor. Most of the time the main characters were complaining about one another and when something did a tually happen it was so out of left field. Just all over the place with how the characters behaved to the plot itself. I had to really struggle to finish this one because I was really hoping something was going to finally click into place. Disappointing.

It feels like a book that wants to be analysed in a book club or classroom - as such its an interesting read, and one that wants to be thought about, but this does make it slightly hard work and less of a relaxing or casual read.

There characters perspectives and opinions quickly flip, which is a bit confusing at times. The m/m scenes are very closed door, while the f/f (f/plant??) scene is fairly open door which I am sure is a purposeful choice but one I am unclear upon, perhaps trying to centre one pair as more alive and less constrained by society than the other?

Some characters just seemed to get abandoned within the plot and never spoken of again.

Glad to have read it

A really good horror novel. It kept me on my toes a lot. It was creepy and weird in the best way possible. The ending was very nice, but kept me feeling slightly uneasy. Overall, a great selection that would be great to read during the spooky months.

What a wild ride, holy sh*t.

The stage is set impeccably; you imagine yourself in the lush green man-made rainforest under the glass dome with every page you turn.

The characters are a bit... how can I put it? I got the sense that at one point, the writer just wanted to get on with the story, rather than give the characters their proper developments. Their motives seemed to be all over the place, which at one point I thought would have made sense, except my theory was wrong.

A side plot seems to be resolved based on the vague hunch of a young woman with barely any evidence, and even though it was made to be rather a big deal in the beginning, the ending barely brushes over it.

All in all, the story seems to forget itself sometimes, characters zig when you'd expect them to zag, but it's quite an enjoyable read. The descriptions are fantastic, and come on... who doesn't love a good queer horror?

(Also: yes, the author does go there.)
