I wasn't drawn in by the characters or story. I put it down and I didn't want to pick it back up again

A warrior princess is trained to become her father's secret weapon. Lara is tasked with killing King Aren of the Bridge Kingdom, her kingdom's enemy. She is sent by her father as a bride to infiltrate his lands and gets intel on how to invade The Bridge Kingdom and kill Aren.

This book is ENEMIES-LOVERS perfection! HOLY CRAP!!! This book captured my attention in a way not many books can.  The main character Lara is officially one of my favorite badass female characters, she also knows how powerful she is, and even when confronted by her worst fears, she does not give up. It is very interesting being in her head because she does horrible things while believing they are the right thing to do. She will really do anything for the people she loves. King Aren was swoon-worthy, hardheaded and so freaking hot!!!

Please read this book!!!!

This book was marketed to me as a fantasy romance, so I went into it thinking that. And the first 60 pages absolutely lives up to the hype. Could not put it down. It was absolutely amazing. I was here for the fantasy romance. However, between page 60 and 200 is one things begin to slow down. A lot of fighting happened a lot more of the political portion of the story came in to play, but the romance almost disappeared. Which was disappointing because I was expecting a lot of romance. However, the end of the book kicked it up a lot of notches. My heart was wrenching. My anger was fired up and I’m hoping book 2 will have more romance!

In short, I almost wish the author added more romance in the middle of the book especially because the beginning had so much of it. I think a few more scenes between the two main characters would have made to romance connect fully from beginning to end and would have developed the main characters growth a little more.

I was also very confused about the placings of the different kingdoms. My edition had no maps, and I found it very hard to keep track of everything.

Despite that, I still thoroughly enjoyed it, and cannot wait to pick up the second book. If you’re someone who loves a good fantasy with a romance plotline, then you will enjoy this one.

I also recommend the audiobook for this one. There are two voice actors and both did a phenomenal job!

This book has been on my radar for a while now, and I’m not sure why I hadn’t gotten around to it sooner, but man am I kicking myself now because IT WAS SO GOOD!!!! I read it in almost one sitting, only putting it down because I literally couldn’t keep my eyes open. I’m excited to jump right into the next book because I’m DYING to know what’s gonna happen!!!

This was super entertaining right from the start but as the story progressed and we were closer to the ending I feel like the pacing went way off base and the story became a lot of telling rather than showing. And then obviously the ending was just uber predictable. I did overall enjoy this book and have bought book 2, which I'm hoping will redeem the ending of this first one.

finally got to read this one after following the hype on bookstagram for quite some time. the first chapter was quite intense and got me hooked immediately. i admire the complex world-building and the characters. aren and lara and many of the side characters are very well crafted, though i wished to learn more about some of them (e.g. jor, taryn, annah). the character development of, particularly, lara was incredible and i loved how the story and her views on everything evolved. however, i got one word for you: miscommunication. gosh, how i hate this trope. i mean, i totally expected to happen exactly what happened but, needless to say, i hated it and it had me almost throw my kindle aggressively and incredibly frusted against a wall. i'm super excited about the second book and hope everything will be resolved then.

Compelling story! Loved Aren. Loved this word of rival kingdoms and the kingdom in the middle fighting for survival. Lara grew so much in this book and is the perfect example of what happens when you find out the entire truth. Her sharp wits, survival instincts, and her devloped ability to strive for happiness was awesome!
