This book ravaged my heart when I least expected it to.

REREAD. Dovepaw is really getting on my nerves. I mean, why she act selfish every time? Just because she’s seeing Tigerheart, Jayfeather had to give catnip to Shadow Clan. And Ivypaw had to stay in Shadow Clan just because of Dovepaw.
I’m starting to not like Cinderheart and Lionblaze relationship. I don’t think they’re right for each other. And I quite agree with Cinderheart, Lionblaze must stay single.
I hate that Dovepaw did not believe her sister when she told him about Tigerheart. Why Ivypaw would told her if it wasn’t true ?
And finally, Flametail. I didn’t like him or seeing his pov. He’s selfish and I don’t think he could have been a good med cat. I liked Jayfeather when he tried to save him. He was brave.
And I’m proud of Ivypaw, she’s not naive anymore.

Ooh, that was weird. I actually got to rate this one! Throughout this reread, I've been keeping my old ratings from when I first read all the books/added them on GoodReads (and inevitably gave them all five stars because I loved my silly cat books) but I never did finish this one back in the day and so we're finally venturing into uncharted territory! Now the fun truly begins :D It only took, what, four years...? Psssh.

Anyway, this one took aaaages for me to get through, for whatever reason. It wasn't really any fault of the book's; I enjoyed it just fine, and it's a bit exciting as we're building up to the climax of this arc. I think at the time I started it, I was just kinda Warriors-ed out, and needed a bit of a breather. I still was enjoying content from the series and whatnot, but actually reading it felt more like a chore than anything so I didn't want to force myself. Then in the last few days I was like, "okay, let's give it another go" and it stuck! Huzzah!

While it was a bit frustrating to watch, I love that we got to really see the contrasting dynamic between Dovepaw and Ivypaw. I honestly love them both, and thought Dovepaw was my fave based on the first few books, but Ivypaw is seriously so cute. Especially at the end, that sisterly bond... ;-; I'm worried for what might come next, despite doing my best to avoid spoilers you can only do so much when you're active in the fandom and the book in question has been out for eleven years.

I thought
SpoilerFlametail
's death was kind of random? (Do I even need to spoiler that? I feel like everyone's read this already, but I'll do it anyway.) Like, why? Very dramatic, yes, which we all know this series loves, but I'm failing to see the reason. It'll probably be revealed in the next book, so I'm curious to see how that pans out.

Also, I like Tigerheart, but I don't really vibe with the TigerxDove ship. 1, he's a warrior and she's an apprentice, so it's weird, and 2, it just feels kinda forced. Gives me LeafCrow vibes again, like where did this relationship come from? But maybe that's just me forgetting stuff from the first half of the book since it took me like five months to read. So I'll let it slide. I don't think I have a choice, based on what I've seen happens in later books.

In any case, I'm very excited to finally be reading books I haven't read before! Of course, we've still got a looong way to go before I'm actually caught up (like, 45 more books long) and I'll be rereading a couple Super Editions along the way, but I am so looking forward to finally getting to know these new characters I've heard so much about first-hand.

Unfortunately, due to my new TBR rule I'll have to wait a bit before starting the next book because I never had the foresight to add it to my TBR beforehand, so now I have to read a few more books before I can add that in and keep the ball rolling. But that might be good, since I seem to really burn out if I try to take it too fast. Slow and steady wins the race!

Well, that was a bit depressing. This series is turning out to be "George R.R. Martin writes about cats" the longer I get into it. Like a character? Expect death, destruction and mayhem.

It is amusing to me that a long standing series about cats living in a forest has as much drama as people would expect in real life dealing with other people. Subjects still pop up that are quite mature for the intended audience, but are handled in a great way, which I appreciate.

So far, the fourth series is proving to be FAR more interesting than Power of Three or New Prophecy. I hope it's not a disappointment.

Very good, i thought it was one of the better ones. Good, very good.

But...Flametail! :'( Dovepaw is honestly hella annoying, I appreciated having Flametail's POV :/

Okay, but why is it every time I have a new favorite they have to die I—

3.5/5 stars
