This was not at all what I expected, given the blurb. I am a little disappointed, since the plot I thought I was getting is very intriguing. This one's not bad, and I was invested enough to keep turning pages. I'll also say this is an excellent book for club discussions. I'd love to hear people's thoughts on how this book treated the subject of justice.
I figured out one of the twists after a while. I kept waiting for something to come up with Fallow. The book kept focusing on his back pain; I was sure it was important foreshadowing. Turns out, no, that's just a part of his character. I do feel like the online information stuff might have been stretched a bit. Even if it's fake, if it's on the internet for long enough, people will know about it. I'm surprised none of the police involved or that therapist noticed anything sooner.
The best thing this book did was stir up some moral ambiguity. We know our justice system is broken; the guilty are not always punished. It also brings up a question on if murder should ever be overlooked. It's interesting, and worthy of conversation. The book takes a certain stance on the issue. Like I said, it's good for a book club. I would go the route of Betty and forgive, butI can see others taking Amanda's attitude.
I thought it was good. It's a more morally gray ending than usual with this genre, and I always appreciate that.
