There was a few times I wanted to put this book down but I stuck it out (thank God). Didn’t really get that interesting until - finally - they got together.
Lina, bounty hunter, looking for a car that a known criminal disappeared with. She’s witty, confident and badass. Her friendship with Sloan and Naomi flourished with her involvement in their lives and their became inseparable.
Nash, police man with an hero complex struggling to work through Depression/PTSD after he was shot. A simp, stubborn, pain in the ass. He’s perfect and he’s got a dog. What else do you need??

Things I liked:
✔️ This book does a great job of showing what living inside someone’s head with depression is like.
Everyone was alone and breathing. Everyone but me. I was just pretending pg.2
At least with the job I had a reason to go through the motions. I had a reason to get out of bed - or off the couch - every morning pg27
I hated myself. Hated the weakness. The lack of control. Hated the thought that this was all in my head. That it could happen anywhere. I couldn’t do my job. I couldn’t protect this town if I couldn’t even protect myself from the monsters in my own fucking head pg130
✔️ sexual tension
“Your gun is digging into me”
“That’s not my gun”
“I know” pg35
I had her fully pinned against the wall (…) her hands knuckles in my shirt, holding me to her.
“You want me to back off?”
“Yes” her hands pulled me tighter
“You want me to stop touching you, Angel?”
“No” pg. 96
✔️ the new found family aspect was very well portrayed and handled
“Friends give friends the benefit of the doubt. Maybe you had a good reason for not being honest. Or maybe you’ve never had awesome friends like Sloane and me. What kind of friends would we be if we left you when you needed us most?” pg. 255
Real friends. Naomi and Sloane had accepted all of me, including my less-than-perfect parts Pg359
✔️ Chapter 38. Yep. That’s it.
✔️ Progressive healing of depression/anxiety/panic attacks and not just *clicks fingers* healed.
I’d made it through another day. I’d eaten. I’d cleaned. I’d talked to people in more than just bad tempered grunts. And I hadn’t let anyone see the yawning chasm of emptiness that lived in my chest pg.58
“You make me feel things. And after going long enough without feeling anything, feeling something - even if it’s anger or adrenaline - is better than the nothing.” Pg 105
“I should have come by earlier to thank you. But things have been… (…) Thank you for saving my life Xandra.” Pg. 178
Afterthoughts:
This books really made me want to read Things We Left Behind (Sloan and Lucien)
The amount of “Inevitable” I’m this made me think they took a page out of Kai Azer’s book

Was fine. Lucy Score books are (and feel) hella long.
I liked the dog and the panic attack scenes. Don’t really care about the whole mafia situation in either book.
Pushed through because book 3 has such good reviews.

After dealing with way too many pages of a-hole Knoxery in the first book, I was relieved to get so many pages of Nash! I absolutely loved him in the first book and could not wait to have more of him. He did not disappoint.
Nash is your typical Southern gentleman/small town police chief dealing with severe PTSD after incidents in the first book. Watching his journey of depression, coping, struggling, and later healing was a wild ride to say the least. This book took such a deep look at PTSD, panic attacks, dealing with addiction/dependency, and overcoming your physical and mental roadblocks. The way Nash related his situation with his father's broke my heart, but it was so rewarding to see him finally work through it all with Lina's help.
Lina also had her fair share of hurdles to leap throughout the story, but watching her accept her feelings and take the plunge to act on them was fantastic. I loved that Lina was a take no crap lady who went toe to toe with everyone. Even when she and Nash argued, she always held her own and made her wants and needs clear. They were such a sweet yet fiery duo, and their slow burn build up was perfect!
The last bit of the book mirrored the first so much with the amount of action that took place. I didn't necessarily dislike it because with Nash and Lina's jobs, it made sense, but it still felt a little drawn out for my taste. I think, like with the first, the whole book could have been about 100 pages shorter and still would have been impactful.
Also, almost every time Knox showed up in this book, I was further reminded how much I couldn't stand him. At one point, I even yelled, "Shut up, Knox!"
Whether or not you liked the first book, I'd definitely give this one a chance! It's got so many great elements: slow burn romance, small town setting, Southern gentleman and a love 'em and leave 'em girl, precious pups, steamy moments, excellent side characters, and lots of silly banter.

Knew I was gonna love Nash and Lina from reading about them in the first book.
