This started off promising, but it dragged way too long before Abrielle finally admitted her feelings for Raven. Honestly, she was just annoying, and on top of that, they spent most of the book apart. By the time the third act came, I’d already checked out and just skimmed through. The ending felt rushed on top of everything.

Medieval English/ Scottish historical.
The heroine Abrielle is annoying and despite the hero saving her multiple times, she refuses to trust him and his motives.
The hero, Raven fell in insta-love with the heroine, and that was it. No matter how often she dismissed him, he kept coming back.
There was very dubious consent for the consummation of their marriage, which felt off ( but may be a reflection of the time the book was written).
This book contains mildly descriptive love scenes.

This was entertaining. If they'd even spoken to each other actually, properly, this book would have been half as long. LOL.
Hackneyed. Stale. Nearly unreadable, if it weren't for a few glimmering rays of sharply worded prose. The dialog is even worse than the story itself, and yet... And yet I didn't just stop reading it. I finished it. Which I suppose says something.
3.5 Stars
This isn't my favorite of Kathleen Woodiwiss' novels. I was actually really enjoying the first two thirds of the story, but the last third or so felt way to rushed. All the pieces got tied up too quickly and things like Abrielle's change of heart came with too little provocation. None of the action was bad or anything, again it was just rushed. I liked Abrielle and Raven as couple. The time period was well depicted and the quality of the writing was superb as always. But it felt like the ending got truncated and had everyone's reactions sped up instead of taking all the time needed to truly feel like the changes were natural.

When we were in middle school my very religious friend's aunt gave her this book. We were like "wow there's SEX" and were passing it around reading it but then her mom found it and literally BURNED it before I had a chance to read it. I got it from the library later. It's not the best. The main love interest is named Raven; is that even a name in medieval Scotland??
The first part of this book - maybe 3/4 of it - was excellent. I really enjoyed it. The last 1/4 was rushed and just not that good. Could have gone on for probably another 100 pages.
Will give the book a CW for reluctant sex

This was a nice historical romance. This is one of those books where I really wish people would just ask questions instead of jumping to wrong conclusions, but then I suppose we wouldn't have as much of a story, lol. Of course there was an HEA, so it's all good in the end. Compared to other historicals, this one just wasn't as good, but it was still enjoyable.
He basically rapes her on their wedding night. If it weren't for that it would have been a fun melodramatic romp. But that's pretty hard to get past.
