Cute book that dragged a bit in the middle but had a satisfying ending.

Restarted this book twice, but couldn’t get into it. DNF

I don't know why I didn't love this. All the elements felt like they had been hand-picked for my enjoyment. And yet, this didn't really resonate with me and I struggled to finish.

The ten thousand years it took me to finish this book....
Ok, not quite but it felt that way.
It also felt like this book was ten thousand pages long.
With that said, I feel the need to also add that this is the third Alix E. Harrow book I have read and I have seen from experience that they start off very slow and vague. She is a story weaver. Her words are so well-woven and beautiful but in this case man, the plot is a strand that is only woven in occasionally. The characters seemed one dimensional and I had zero connection to any of them. I don't need to like characters, but I do need to actually care about what ultimately happens to them. I did care about the dog though. I was about to jump on "doesthedogdie dot com" and perform a safety check. But seriously - just the dog?? The concepts were so interesting but I didn't care. It was not solid enough for me.
Knowing what I know now about AEH and that her 2024 book will end up being my best of the year (and thinking back now on the struggles I went through to read that book...WOW), I can honestly say she experiences astounding growth as an author.
hopeful inspiring mysterious medium-paced

I'd give the first half 3 stars and the second half 4 or more. I found the main character aggravating until the mid point. Not sure she needed to be for the story to work.
