Strange story with very visceral descriptions. Not sure that I’m the target audience as I’m neither Jewish, a lesbian, or have an eating disorder, which is very much the bread and butter of the narrative. It was fascinating in a grotesque kind of way.

A bisexual Jewish woman with disordered eating habits, mommy issues and a nicotine addiction becomes obsessed with a fat Jewish woman, her confidence and her functional family, shenanigans ensue
but their relationship doesn't work out
/. This book was so jarring and unexpected. It felt real in a way like I knew Rachel (the main character) and though she has the personality of someone I would hate Irl, being in her head, in her mind, watching her justify her thoughts and actions. It was so surreal. I relate to her in a way I utterly despise but love also.

Very strange read, just a full book of food and sex - largely focused on desire. Very graphic eating disorder content, and also graphic sexual content. Avoid if either of those things is a problem, because the whole book is about them.

A tale that is all at once heartbreaking, frustrating, and so very steamy.

I spent the whole book clinging to the development of Miriam and Rachel, begging for Rachel to heal, and craving frozen yogurt. I love the insight into Rachel's thoughts, the way Broder writes. The detail that makes it easy to imagine every moment, which is something I usually struggle with.

A story that truly exemplifies the notion that some people are not meant to be in our lives forever, and we are still able to - and should be - grateful for what they provide while they are here. The lessons they teach, the memories they create, and the person they shape us to be.
