-I started this book back in 2021. But stopped at about 44% not because I didn’t like it. But due to my reading mood. I decided to read it after I finished Daughter Of The Pírate King. And I am so happy I did. I enjoyed the story so much! The characters, the plot! I feel like I’m on the adventure with Fable and the crew. I can not wait to continue the story and see how it ends.
-Great character relationships, tension, slow burn.

3 stars. This was fine. I’ve yet to love a book by Young. The plots are great and I like her writing but there’s always something missing even though I don’t know what it is. I wasn’t particularly connected to the main character, Fable, or any of the side characters so that made this a bit of a drag. The romance was bland and lacked chemistry. I feel like this was a starter book and the sequel will be (hopefully) much stronger with some character depth and a stronger plot.
The ending was pretty good though and I think that Young does action scenes really well. Again, the writing was good and the world building was pretty solid so I’m excited to see how she expands on it. The pacing was steady and made for a quick read. I have an arc of book two so I’ll get to it soon

one of these days i have to remember that i do not enjoy pirate books/books that mainly take place on ships
fun story, not really sure the plot is complex enough for a sequel but loved the character of Fable. she was complex and wasn’t scared to fight for herself

This novel was immersive and utterly captivating—I loved it. It gave me Pirates of the Caribbean vibes, but on a smaller, more intimate scale (and the pirates are technically “traders”). A perfect sick day read to start and finish in one day. I couldn’t put it down and can’t wait to dive into Namesake next!
