4.5 - An easy read with an entertaining story + good characters. First person narrative isn’t my favourite though.
First of all I love the concept!! I love reading about the difficult relationship between Fable and Saint and whole father-daughter thing especially all of Fable’s feelings and her loneliness. However I lost my curiosity. After half of the book the plot isn’t enough to be good that much. A lot of things happen but all of them happen so fast and it’s not about the fluent of the book. We don’t read their journey in the sea and the dangerous of that. I would like to read more about their challenges in the sea. On another hand I love Willa. She is so good and her friendship with Fable is adorable. I prefer to have feelings in the same way for West but nope. I like him but I didn’t ship him and Fable. I think they haven’t chemistry. I see her and Paj or Willa have much more chemistry (this is never gonna to happen). And there is Zola who is I really don’t care anything about him.
An amazing non-piratey pirate adventure!
I saw a lot of good reviews for this book, so I started it with high expectations and it didn’t disappoint. The story is fun and well paced with lots of strategy and adventure.
There are two things I’d share if a friend asked me about it: While it is by no means a thriller, it’s a high anxiety book. The characters are constantly in danger (even from each other) being in this villainous world and that vibe never lets up. (If you are an HSP I would be curious if that was your takeaway from it, too!)
And personally, I wish the romance held out longer as it would make the second book a “must buy” for me. I did eventually buy the second one since my curiosity over what happens (IS there a Happily Ever After in this world for ANY of its inhabitants?) but I’m not chomping at the bit to jump back into this high anxiety world where you aren’t safe anywhere, at all, with anyone, ever.

I literally read this book in one day! I could not tear myself away. I love Adrienne Young , and this did not disappoint! I’ve had these two books on my shelf for months and regret not reading them sooner! On to the next !!
THAT ENDING!!! I already need book two!!! This was an amazing book! I absolutely adored Fable and the crew of the Marigold. Fable was a strong protagonist and I couldn’t get enough of her. The story was exciting and I found myself so engrossed in every turn. It was so beautifully weaved and I couldn’t recommend this book more. The relationship between Fable and Saint was interesting and I really hope there’s more of it in the sequel. Also the romance story? Yes please. This is a great sea adventure book with romance, survival, and bonding. A five star read from me.
