I binged this and book two on audio while I was sick at the beginning of the year and they made for a great escape/adventure while I was lying miserable in bed.

I really enjoyed the atmospheric descriptions of Fable’s dives and life at sea; I think they were some of the best-written parts of the book. It’s been awhile since I’ve read a book with a nautical setting and it was a really fun change of pace.

My favorite part of the book was Fable’s gradual acceptance into a new found family. She went from a cutthroat existence of survival on Jeval to a, well, still-cutthroat existence with people who have her back — so pretty much all I can ask for, lol.

I enjoyed the various small heists and escapades the characters undertook throughout the book, I thought the budding romance was cute, and even though Fable wasn’t the most relatable character for me, I still cheered for her as she sought to be seen and valued by her father and make a life for herself.

I had a hard time rating this one because I definitely enjoyed it, but overall it wasn’t super memorable for me. Though, to be fair, I don’t retain as much from audiobooks as ebooks or physical books. Maybe I should try a reread in the future.

Overall, Fable was an entertaining and well-written adventure perfect for fans of YA fantasy with strong FMCs and found family; and fans of Pirates of the Caribbean and Daughter of the Pirate King.

It’s been a while since I read a good YA Fantasy book and this book, oh my gods! I can’t contain my joy after reading this book. But for now I’m not gonna read the sequel NAMESAKE because I have to re-read the GRISHA TRILOGY to get ready for SHADOW & BONE NETFLIX.

Let’s move on to the book review…..
I don’t really know what to say because this fantasy book was so good. I’ve been seeing this book a lot on BOOKSTAGRAM and at first I wasn’t interested because, to be honest I didn’t like the book cover. Then I saw this again on one of my bookstagram friend’s IG story and she said it was a good and fast pace read.

So I was curious and I started reading it, but I was a little confused at first because I haven’t read a single PIRATE THEMED BOOK or BOOKS THAT WAS SET ON A SEA ADVENTURE before. I was so confused that I have to research the parts of a TRADER SHIP. But let’s skip that, when I first started reading the book, I was so amazed with the writing style. It was fast pace and easy to read and it really got me hooked into reading it more.

The Characters, Fable was the main protagonist she was fearless and resourceful. I really liked that she was a strong female character and she was also independent. Then next we have West, a captain of a trader ship and also Fable’s love interest in the story. He was always cold and distant towards Fable but he was also deeply inlove with her (SPOILER) Anyway I also liked his character even tho its very common in other YA fantasy books. Then next we have the side characters, Willa, Paj,Hamish and Auster (West’s crew) for me they are also great characters because no one was being friendly towards Fable (in the first part) and that’s something new because in all of the other YA fanatasy books I’ve read there was someone who gets very friendly with the main protagonist. Then we also have Fable’s father who was very mysterious like he was present 20% or 30% in the book but he was a legend & rich trader. But I guess there will be more about him in the second book and also it seems that there’s a drama going on between him and Fable.

The Plot, it was somehow new to me since I haven’t read anything that was set in a sea adventure or in a ship. I find it very interesting to read and also it seems predictable in the ending part of the book. The world building was also good, it was not very confusing and there are enough words to describe it and it will keep you interested in knowing more about the world that Adrienne Young created in this book. As I’ve said before it was a fast pace read and the writing was so good and gripping.

ALL IN ALL, what I really liked the most in this book was the writing, it was so good I couldn’t put it down. The plot was also good, the characters as well but I need more development. Also there’s a little romance to it, I really liked how slow burn it was but what I didn’t like was it suddenly went into insta-love like I want more slow burn romance between the two main characters because their chemistry was so good. I really enjoyed reading this book and I’m so excited to read the sequel.

Do I recommend this book series to everyone?? — Highly recommended to all the YA-FANTASTY readers out there and also to those who loved books about PIRATES & SEA ADVENTURE

How would you rate this book?? — I totally enjoyed reading this so I will rate it 4 out of 5 stars.

3.5 rounded up.
So the first third of this book was a bit of a slog; there just wasn't much happening. There was a lot of world building and character building, and whole lot of "never trust anyone" and "trust no one", and "I don't trust", (in all its permutations). But by the time things got going, they were going fast!

I really enjoyed the other 2/3 of this seafaring romp and am looking forward to reading the second book. I need more pirates in my life please!!!
The writing was really good; no useless similes, no overly flowery prose, (Thank You Adrienne!!!
