Ugh such a cute book. Liked that both Darcy and Asher had “issues”, made the book seem more real. Loved the side characters too like the best friend and the wig shop owner.

I didn’t want this book to end. I love how much I felt like I was in Darcy’s world. I didn’t want this book to end. This is a true fictional coming of age story. From High school drama to family life issues. I felt like this book was some I could pick up over and over and fall in love with the characters from the start over again. Is so cute.

Minor: Bullying, Eating disorder, Mental illness, Panic attacks/disorders, Abandonment
i was bamboozled by this book. i thought it would be a fun bookish jane austen inspired love story. it was instead … i don’t even know. more coming of age mom-daughter relationship fiction. and the fucking HOARDING
This was an adorable read that I loved even more because it was about books. The story is told from Darcy's POV and follows her as she navigates her way through some life changes and coming to realise the difference between her fictional worlds and the real world. I quite liked the book quotes at the start of each chapter, I thought that was a nice touch. I fell in love with Darcy from the start and could definitely see parts of myself in her, mostly the book worm parts. I enjoyed watching her grow throughout the story and becoming her own person and not being defined by her past and her mother. Asher is an adorable human figuring his own things out, I loved how patient he was with Darcy when he needed to be and understood her more than she did sometimes. I loved Darcy's best friend and the relationship they had, she was always there for Darcy and knew how to pull her out of her shell. Overall an enjoyable read that was heart-warming with a few laughs along the way.

Darcy uses her love of books to escape her real world, she has a hard time letting people in as she doesn't want them to see her messy life, mostly brought on by her hoarder of a mother. That is, until she meets Asher who has a few secrets of his own (like having a girlfriend while he flirts with Darcy). He walks right into her life and straight to her heart. I will say that I loved our main characters, it's nice to see characters so young and have flaws that get talked about.
I adore characters who are book lovers just like me but I felt like it was overdone, we get it she likes books. That aspect of her life was peppered in as much as it could be and eventually, her being a book lover just got in the way. Looking back on what I remember about this book, it isn't much. The two of them have a cute love story but other than that it's your typical YA. In my opinion, this reads as a younger YA (12-15) and that could have been the reason why I didn't connect with it as much as I would have wanted to.

Dear my Book-Shaped Heart,
The best books are the ones you find yourself slowly falling in love with.
When i finally set out to read this book out of my long, unending list of to-be-read’s i never even started to imagine what i would find within the pages of this novel. This story was so much more than just a girl who lived her life through books or a boy defined by a car accident that placed a hold on all of his dreams. It was a messy explosion of both of their worlds connected into a friendship that turned out to be so much more.
‘"Fairies have to be one thing or the other, because being so small they unfortunately have room for one feeling only at a time." I wish this could be me. To have only one thing to feel for the whole day. And that the one thing would be anything but him.’
–-J. M. Barrie, Peter Pan, and Peter Pan Mystery Scribbler
I think that my heart doubled in size while reading this book. While Darcy and Asher fell in love with each other I fell in love with them too. Through her childhood and teenage years, Darcy tried her best to read away the consequences of her mother’s obsessive shopping and hoarding with millions of words in her favourite books, finding that other people’s stories are better than her own. But when the stakes are rising and time is running out, is it time she rewrote her ending?
I find myself in Darcy. Relating more to books than actual human beings and finding comfort and solace within them more than anything else. Rather than confronting her mother’s problem, Darcy hides herself in her bedroom which has become a kind of library. However, when Darcy realises that her love for reading is more of a coping mechanism and a hoard in its own way, she is forced to choose between the truth or just another story.
“How could I open that door and let him see the messiest part of me?”
— Darcy, The Library of Lost Things
This book taught me to live my own story. To write my own ending. To edit, redraft and plan however I pleased. This book will always be kept close to my Book-Shaped Heart.

Perfect story for those living within the pages of books
Darcy is a flawed, naive, young adult and that's why she is a perfect protagonist. She is real. While home life was much different than hers, the internal struggle is the same, and seeing her story play out in this book is entertaining and cathartic as a reader. Definitely worth a read.

This makes me so sad but I'm just not invested. I've read somewhere between 30-40 percent of the book and just eh? I'm not feeling it. Things are a bit predictable and this book is honestly less centred around books than I had expected so it's just a combination of factors
