Was fine until the ending. So cheesy and ridiculous lmao I was literally cringing listening to them talk in metaphors about lying and reading 😂
This is a pretty straightforward YA romantic contemporary, with some unique features. Darcy’s mom is a hoarder. She shops constantly and obsessively, filling their home with boxes and bins full of stuff they don’t need. Darcy escapes from this shameful existence through books - she reads and loses herself in the universes and lives of the characters she meets. Until one day, she meets Asher, and eventually starts taking risks that surprise herself and everyone else, including a relationship with Asher. Through the messiness that this relationship brings, Darcy learns about herself and what she does to cope with her reality, finally being honest with herself and her mom.

Another Laura Taylor Namey beauty. I loved the use of literary quotations in this book, Austen and from Peter Pan. The main characters were interesting and you rooted for them. I like the complex look at mental health issues like hoarding. I also loved that this romance was a slow burn. These two kids took their time, got to know each other, and it made the ending well-earned and sweet.

There is so much to love about this book: the beautiful writing style, Darcy's love of books and how she sees them as living entities, and Marisol! Everyone deserves a Marisol. I wish I had a friend like her growing up. I also loved Darcy's relationship with her mom and the discussions on hoarding. While I enjoyed how the book wrapped up, I did find it a bit disjointed at the end and that some plot threads were left hanging or didn't go anywhere (like the building manager).
