1) '''I am indeed, in a certain sense a Circle,' replied the voice, 'and a more perfect Circle than any in Flatland; but to speak more accurately, I am many Circles in one.' Then he added more mildly, 'I have a message, dear Madam, to your husband, which I must not deliver in your presence; and, if you would suffer us to retire for a few minutes#-' But my Wife would not listen to the proposal that our august Visitor should so incommode himself, and assuring the Circle that the hour of her own retirement had long passed, with many reiterated apologies for her recent indiscretion, she at last retired to her apartment.
I glanced at the half-hour glass. The last sands had fallen. The third Millennium had begun.''

2) ''An unspeakable horror seized me. There was a darkness; then a dizzy, sickening sensation of sight that was not like seeing; I saw a Line that was no Line; Space that was not Space: I was myself, and not myself. When I could find voice, I shrieked aloud in agony, 'Either this is madness or it is Hell.' 'It is neither,' calmly replied the voice of the Sphere, 'it is Knowledge; it is Three Dimensions: open your eye once again and try to look steadily.''

Strangest book I've ever read. Lots of food for thought. hm

Really short book, but I decided to not finish it because

1: The book isn’t really telling a story, in my opinion it’s more like a research journal or something like that.

2: I know this book was written in 1880, but I feel like the way he talks about women in this book is just so messed up, for example, in so many words he said that it is hard to have good sex with the isosceles women because they are so thin, they have tiny brains and are too stupid to be creative in the bed, or be creative in any way.

After I read that, I was just done. They book was already boring me, and at that point, I didn’t want anymore effort into reading this book…

If I had read this in 1884 I don't think I could have contained myself. This would have radicalized me. I came here for mathematical theory beyond human comprehension and got jump scared by terrifying shape-based eugenics. This rewired something in my brain.

Quite dry but enjoyable in parts: I thought the satire on Victorian society was occasionally clever but sometimes a little too oblique. Still, it's an interesting concept that is well executed.

Very interesting and thought provoking. Short book but dense. I felt like I was reading a geometry textbook but a society of geometrical lines and shapes and how it all works. It's interesting thinking about the 4th dimension in relevance to this and what we know now in regards to 2nd and 3rd dimension.

"For why should the thirst for knowledge be aroused, only to be disappointed and punished"

So bizarre, but interesting considering the use of shape and geometry considering it was written in 1884
