I Owe You One is another winner from bestselling author (and personal favorite of mine), Sophie Kinsella! I absolutely adored this book. I saw a little of myself within Fixie, connected with her character on a deep level, and loved the changes that happened in her life in the end. I was truly rooting for Fixie the whole way through and loved watching her progress from being a girl everyone walked all over to a woman who takes charge. If you are a fan of Sophie Kinsella and have been reading her books since the beginning (like I have) then you will notice that this is a classic Kinsella novel. The author has a certain sparkle within her novels and it certainly hasn't been dimmed! I very much recommend it.

As with most of the authors novels, the heroine of the stories always start off as a little naive. This is no different with Fixie in I Owe You One. Some may find it exhausting that her characters have very little backbone, but I myself find it refreshing. Too many times in novels are heroines shown to be nearly perfect and that's just not realistic. Everyone has flaws. In Fixie's case, her flaw is allowing people to walk all over her because she thinks she needs to stand by her family at any cost. This makes her character very meek (and a little bit weak in the beginning). But as she begins to find herself you see a growth inside her that shines above everything else and this is what made me really love her. Ladies and gents, none of us are perfect. Some of us as more prone to put others first over ourselves (like Fixie), and others walk all over people to get to the top. Many of us are right in the middle- we speak up for ourselves but don't allow others to knock us down in the process. But this story can be perceived as realistic in a way that many people live just as Fixie does. So all in all, her character to me is a breath of fresh air. She's a little silly, very sweet, and just wants her family to have everything they can. I loved her!

Some of the secondary characters in the novel had me scratching my head and wanting to pull my hair out- they certainly added the dramatic effect in the novel, but I was glad in the end to see everyone basically be put in their places. If they annoy you while reading just remember, it get's better!!!

Anyway, enough with my rant. I obviously loved this book, I feel passionate about it and enjoyed reading every single second of it. I love the authors writing style which is original to her, the way she builds her characters around a certain issue, and the way everything comes together in the end. Obviously, I also recommend it! I hope all that do decide to grab a copy enjoy it as much as I did.

An enjoyable read about a lady who wants to take care of everyone else, but finally finds a life of her own. It was hard watching her allow others to take advantage of her for most of the book, especially her family; there were many cringe-worthy moments. If you've read this author before, though, it's too be expected - I always had a hard time with the shopaholic books too because the protagonist was so DUMB. In this case, to see our main character grow in the end was worth it.

Ah another great read from Sophie Kinsella!

Fixie (Faun) Takes her Nickname for always wanting to fix things, After her mum decides she needs a break with her Aunt fixie and her Siblings are left in charge of Fars their Family store.

Unfortunately all three siblings clash as they each have different ideas for the store!

Fixie refusing to be a doormat needs to turn things around.

I Understand Fixie's underestimation of herself, but i was a bit angry at her mum that really doesnt appreciate fixie and what she actually does.

Jake was a complete Plonker...... How his sweet Missus sticks by him was beyond me....

Nicole (I have a few friends like this) so I did like her in a comical sort of way.

Ryan (really that sex scene was hilarious)

Seb...... Gahhh lost in communication

And that Uncle all i pictured was Uncle Vernon........

It breaks my heart to give Sophie Kinsella a rating below 5-star. I am a huge fan. Love her books and especially on audible, they are fun, light-hearted with a bigger message running underneath each story and/or character, and always follow a great story arch. I am afraid I did not really feel this book lived up to the promise of the writer or her normal style.

Fixie Farr was sadly a giant push-over, and it was nauseating to watch her openly let her family - her siblings were quite deficient in manner or consideration - and her 'boyfriend' Ryan, and her uncle shove her in any direction they desired, and she just stood there, taking it all in, and then wondering "if I've been a fool!" YES!!! You have Fixie, and it went on for so long. Take Jake for example, her brother. He could not be more cruel, uncaring, and unloving, and I am all for the motto of "Family First" but does that mean we allow them to walk all over us and never demand a thing in return?

Our other protagonist, Sebastien, is also a bit confusing. He is dating a total b1tch. Typical initial set-up, no problem. He's a nice guy and we like him, but then he seems to be dishing out advice to Fixie that he himself is not following. What was that about - dating the b1tch, then dating Fixie, then their bizarre break-up which is by this point unlike what you would expect your mature characters, and then him getting back with the b1tch and then naturally, as you would expect, going back to Fixie, but not at the point where it would have made more sense.

Oh I don't know. There were somewhat funny parts, but if you're not in love with your protagonist in these stories, you just don't care as much. I really wanted to LOVE this book. It was my "treat" in between business book readings, but I didn't. So many of Kinsella's earlier works surpass this so if you want one of her best works, skip this one.

Feeling terrible for leaving a 3-star for one of my favorite authors!!!

You know how you really try to eat healthy foods, like kale, and get more sleep and exercise and generally try to become a more productive person? But all you really want to do sometimes is sloth around binge-watching Friends on Netflix and eating potato chips or an entire bag of cookies and never change out of your pajamas for the entire day? 😳.

Do I have a point here? Yes..sometimes there are books that I want to read that are just like comfort food. Maybe they’re funny or romantic or just plain entertaining to me. I Owe You One was that kind of book for me. I hadn’t read a Sophie Kinsella book in quite awhile but I was at the library and saw this one and borrowed it. I needed something fun and I enjoyed Fixie’s story. It made me laugh and surprisingly made me tear up.😢
.
Fixie Farr lives in London and helps her mum run her dad’s housewares shop since her dad passed away. Fixie got her name because she feels she always has to fix things ,whether it’s dealing with her slacker older siblings or constantly helping others. When she meets a stranger named Sebastian in a coffee shop, he asks her to watch his laptop for him. Disaster ensues but Fixie manages to save Seb’s laptop from destruction. That’s what Fixie does. She saves things and sometimes people, occasionally at her own expense. Seb insists he owes Fixie a favor and writes her an IOU on a coffee sleeve. What follows in this book is a sweet blend of romance and family drama. Fixie tugged at my heart strings and if you enjoy book with romance, comedy and drama with a heroine you can root for, I definitely recommend this one!

Twas cute. I enjoyed it. But I like a little more...pain & toxicity in my fictional relationships. Obviously didn’t expect that from this book.
