I know this is part of a series, but I'm really disappointed with that REALLY OPEN ending.

This was certainly very fun. Although the main character was absolutely insufferable near the beginning. I understand they were going for the "bad at he beginniing and get s better" thing, but he was so insufferable i nearly stopped reading. Fortunately that changes pretty quickly so I encourage people to stick with it.

Best part of this is the world building. Magic system is interesting and complex. Although he loves long info dumps.

Worst part was the characters. Most of them were incredibly unlikeable to me at least as mentioned above.

Harry Potter meets Hades (the video game, not the Greek god).

At first, I thought I’d hate this book. It ready does begin like a clone of Harry Potter, but without any of the interesting worldbuilding and culture. Gradually the book finds its footing a bit more, and by the end I was really enjoying it.

"I guess everything changed during the school break," Zorian shrugged. "Somehow he went from a borderline failure to amazing genius between year 2 and three."

I sure hope this happens to me after my second year in the Ph.D. program! All I have to do is figure out how to create a time loop before the end of the summer.

(And yes, the book did write the "2" as a number and "three" as a word).
