Bueno, bueno.

I was really into the story until the last five or so chapters, they honestly felt so disconnected from the rest, weird pacing, really heavy themes that weren’t well handled in my opinion (felt they only were there for shock value). I would’ve given this book a 3,5 maybe even a 4, but the end was just so unnecessarily heavy that just made it an bad experience in the end.

She could fly. The sky belonged to her. She was a bird.
She was a bird and she would fly across the river.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5
So i just finished reading Orphan Monster Spy.....and this book left me an emotional wreck..😩
It was surprisingly good and i couldnt put it down!
It is considered to be a YA spy fiction but it was an intense read and to me it was more like an unpredictable slow paced Historical Thriller..!
It is a captivating and well written debut novel about a Jewish girl, named Sarah, who is trying to escape to safety as the second world war is about to begin. But after her mother is shot at a checkpoint, she finds herself running from the monsters who wants to see every person like her dead.
Then she finds herself working as a spy for a mysterious man, who she's not entirely sure she can trust...her mission is to go to a Nazi boarding school and befriend with the daughter of a scientist, who is a threat to the country. She needs to get into his lab and find the blueprints!
It is an emotional and heart breaking read....! And gets dark and disturbing at times...
I absolutely loved this book, it touched me deeply..and is going to stay with me for a very long time!
Would definitely read more books by this author!!

I really struggled to get into this book, as I found the narration to be confusing. It was like it couldn’t decide whether it was third or first person? Due to this I had to do a lot of re-reading at the beginning to wrap my head around what was actually happening. HOWEVER, I did get into the swing of it after a while and boi it was intense. I was completely gripped and couldn’t put the book down - therefore, redeeming itself for me. Was also quite satisfied with the ending which is always nice and I loved the relationship between the captain and Sarah, and how it developed and blossomed throughout the book.
It's not often I pick up a historical fiction book...but this one blew my mind!

Huh, that wasn't what I was expecting but quite interesting. A lot of topics touched on and I actually really appreciated the authors note!
