Really slow and overwhelming to start but I really enjoyed it once I got into it.
To start off, this book begins with heavy themes of grief after the loss of the FMC’s father. It was well written and well performed by the narrator and weighs heavily on the FMC for the first few chapters. The whole story is about her making a bargain with the god of death in order to save her father’s life. So please be aware of those themes before starting this one.
As someone who also recently lost a father, I related to what Hanna was going through and I definitely felt a connection with her character….that is, until she bargained her life away for her dad, which I KNOW is the whole point of the Beauty and the Beast story, but her dad had no other family and taking his place felt like such a waste. He lived his life. It was his time to go and she had a hard time accepting that. I could see it making sense if he had more family or other younger kids that depended on him, but he didn’t.

This reads like a modern version of a traditional mythology tale and I LOVE IT. So much fun. Easy to get into. Reading Book 2 IMMEDIATELY.
