Snooze-fest

Well that was immensely disappointing. What the actual heck did I just read? Does anyone know, because I don’t. I was so bored during the whole thing. Genuinely counting down the pages until I could be done, never to look back.

Yesss. Omg. So many people who to trust? And DEATH. Ugh, I love it. Desperate for book 2

So I enjoyed this book, but I struggled on whether I wanted to rate it 3 or 4 stars. While the mythology and fantasy elements of the book were fantastic, I didn't really feel the chemistry between the main two characters. I am hoping it will develop more in book 2.

River of Shadows tells the story of Hanna, who after several years goes to Finland due to the news of her father's passing. However, when she gets there, she is confronted with the horrible truth: her father is not actually dead. Instead, he is being held by the God of Death for invading Death's realm. In an attempt to rescue her father, Hanna and her father's apprentice Rasmus go into the realm to save her father, but it isn't long before they're captured by Death himself.

Though their relationship may not have had the best start, there's an instant connection between Hanna and Death where they're both intrigued yet cautious of the other. Over time, we get to see both characters surprise us and eventually they get to a point where they are much more trusting of each other than they were before. However, this does end in a cliffhanger, so I can't wait to read the next book and find out what happens and how their relationship progresses from here.

I love anything related to mythology and have wanted to explore mythologies other than Greek and Roman, and a story about Finnish mythology was just what I needed. This wasn't too hard to understand and didn't have many unknown elements that would require previous knowledge of this branch of mythology.

Overall, I really enjoyed reading River of Shadows and can't wait for the next book to come out!
