I absolutely LOVED this book. Every book by this author is so well written and thought provoking. This book had me frozen with my hand to my face and crying happy tears. The author brings the past to life through fictional characters who embody the real-life people who endured incredible suffering and hardship. This is a must-read book. 11/10

3.5 stars. There is a LOT going on in this book—maybe too much. I really enjoyed the read, as horrifying as it is in parts, and appreciated the blending of history and story. Still, it felt to me like it could have been more tightly focused. Worth your time, though.

Just not getting into it but maybe will try later??

Rich storytelling and history, also shocking and tragic.

I’m very curious about the history of Korea, and this is another book that fills in bits and pieces. It’s fascinating at the same time entered woven with brutal realities. Hi

I think I love everything Lisa See writes. It's not that I didn't know I would be getting a moving story about the deep friendships that women forge through hardships, but somehow it still made me cry. While some of it is a bit dryer - because there is so much history to get through and cultural knowledge that the reader will need - it is still a beautiful story. There are many tragic moments, but also many moving ones.
