I learned a lot about Geena Davis, only knowing her in movies and having seen her give a talk about her Institute on Gender in Media. I listened while on a bike ride and it was good listening! Her stories were really catching.

If I didn’t think Geena Davis was an amazing person before this book, I sure do now. The actor I fell in love with as Dottie Henson led her own trail blazing path through movies and did so much work behind the scenes that impacted movies that I watched and grew up watching.

Davis reminded me that we’re all a work in progress. If you take anything away from this book, let it be that we all may die of politeness and that isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

I felt this was an honest and mature memoir about her personal and career growth and how they helped each other. I found the personal relationships and struggles to speak authentically in the moment relatable. I also respect that the book maintains a distance between the reader and her, I like that she kept parts of her life to herself which made it easier to engage with what she was willing to share.
