It's not for anybody who wants dirt and gossip about Hollywood and the men she was married to. You're not going to get anything incredibly juicy about any of the movies she's in unless she shares interesting things about them. I enjoyed this book and listening to the audiobook version enjoyed listening to Geena read it herself. Her smooth voice makes it more enjoyable to listen to. However I don't think I will be watching The Fly ever.

Overall enjoyable just very short.
I'd have liked to hear more about her advocacy project and she also really skims over most of her career except for a few movies like Thelma and Louise.
It was interesting hearing that in her experience with her advocacy organization that people she interacted with were biased without realizing and responded positively.
I think more diversity in so many areas can only happen when the creators are diverse. Or with writing when the publishers are diverse. It's not necessarily something people are doing on purpose but because it's human nature to see things from your own perspective.

I thought this was Jennifer Garner's book until about a quarter of the way through it lol
I added it to my reading list when it came up as a suggested read on here, was like "hey I know her, she's in the Invention of Lying and 13 Going on 30". Started listening to the audiobook and eventually was like this doesn't sound like the actor I'm thinking of, but it says it's read by the author. Finally decided to Google the actress in the Invention of Lying and they're not even the same person. The only film I can remember watching of Geena Davis' is Stuart Little but this book made me love her and now I want to make sure I watch all of her films except probably not the one about the Fly lol

Geena Davis looking at Geena Davis’ life through rose-colored glasses. I’m not sure younger potential actors want to hear how she basically bumbled her way into Academy Awards and Emmys, but she’s charming throughout, and of course her dear mother is the favorite character of her life and it shows through her stories (and readings in the Audiobook version). There was a lot of focus on female empowerment which is fantastic, but I couldn’t help but notice how supportive some of the men in her life were toward that end. And not every woman has that kind of advocate. If Bill Murray (one of the only actors for whom Geena has any unkind words) had been her first costar (instead of Dustin Hoffman, who by all accounts is an absolute mensch), her story might have evolved differently.
Still, I’ll always laugh about Mia Hearn.

Wow. Geena Davis is a badass.
I obviously knew who Geena was from her iconic roles in Beetlejuice, A League of Their Own, and of course.....Stuart Little. But in recent years I had fallen in love with her character as Nicole Hermann on Grey's Anatomy so when I saw she had a book I was immediately interested.
I chose to listen to the audio version since Geena has such a distinct voice, it was nice to hear it all come from her. She speaks on so many topics, some make you laugh, some make you gasp in fear and some fill you up with joy. Growing up as a quiet young girl to branching out into the world as a model turned actress learning to take no BS, Geena focuses on the importance of speaking out for yourself and others. Dying of Politeness is the perfect title.
