So I'd seen reviews for this series recommending that you read it with an audiobook and a physical copy simultaneously. I decided to try that method with the novella (because I've never actually listened to an audiobook before), and I am so glad that I did.

I played the audiobook on my laptop while reading the e-book on my phone, and while I admit that for a longer book, it might be a bit annoying to have two devices running at the same time, I enjoyed it so much. The audiobook combined with the e-book made reading it feel more like an experience than a story.
Not only is each character voiced by a different narrator, but the sound effects in the background gave me chills multiple times and I got so excited to finish it that I basically read it in two sittings.
The story itself was super cool and short and it was definitely a worthwhile prequel to the series. I didn't cry, but I teared up at the end a bit.

Listening to the book while also reading it has inspired me to do the same for the rest of the series, so over winter break I intend to reread the series with the audiobooks and the e-books at the same time. I'm excited for it already.

AIDAN why did you do that you silly goose

A Short, but Effective Novella

Amazing addition to the Illuminae files. It actually adds to the overall story by delving into the emergence of AIDAN'S unnatural ability to process and react to situations in a decidedly "human" manner while making decisions in preserving on destroying life. The authors effortlessly managed to make me sympathize and grieve for the characters in under 100 pages. AIDAN remains to be one of the most complex and well- developed "villains" in YA.

I-.... I'm-... I mean-... What the fuck!?
Those motherfuckers. I can't. What was this?
How could I grow so attached to characters I've known for 80 pages. How is that even possible.

Illuminae is literally my favorite thing and I love everything about this series and this novella fucked me up just as much as the rest of the books. I live for the characters, the action, the thrill and just the constant moving of the plot.

Memento was a short novella but it was so on point, we got to see some of the og people and also a little story about Liv and Wolf. I loved them. I loved them so much even if it was only for a minute.

AIDEN IS fucking insane!!! I love that AI but shit he is evil and messed up. It was fascinating learning more about him though.

Jay and Amie are masters at writing.

3.5 stars. It was good! But definitely don't expect it to be happy. I think I would have given it 4 stars if I'd been more in the mood for something with
Spoiler an unhappy ending.
I just wasn't, but I still enjoyed the story and the unique format! It was a very quick, action-packed read!

SOME MONSTERS ARE BORN.

I WAS MADE.

Yowza. Reading Memento right after finishing Obsidio, it's a bit of a shock to see how far AIDAN has come. These mere 82 pages really demonstrate how AIDAN got to where he was at the beginning of Illuminae, and even through the end of Obsidio. Amazing.
