I recognize Jay Kristoff's problematic behavior and I know I should just give up on this series, but the audio is beyond anything else I've listened to and to hear AIDAN's narrator again was so nice. I know, I'm weak and hypocritical.
*audiobook*
an enjoyable novella. probably would’ve rated it higher had i not read the trilogy years ago and remembered more, but the focus on AIDAN was a delight as always.

This book is not to be read before the original trilogy.
This was an amazing addition to the trilogy. Made me crave for more in this universe, in this format, and more of Aidan. If they release this in paper format, I would probably buy it.
Audiobook - an amazing a production as the trilogy. The narrator for Aidan was different. That was a bit disappointing. The new guy sounds very different. However, he did a good job matching his tone to the original trilogy.

"Ecco cosa vedono.

“AIDAN cannot ‘save myself,’ since AIDAN is not technically alive. AIDAN is hardware and software and electric current. AIDAN cannot conceptualize ‘I.’ ”
“Cogito, ergo sum.”
“ ‘I think, therefore I am’ does not apply in AIDAN’s situation. Descartes never imagined a world in which something like AIDAN could exist.”

Remember that whole “I think therefor I am” and what it is to be human theme that permeated the three books of the main trilogy?
Indeed, this little novella explores that concept deeply.
The short but impactful story of how AIDAN as we know it in the main story came to be drives home many of the points made by the ADIAN of the main story. And with subtle callbacks and references to characters we said goodbye to early on… it’s a great Novella.
However reader beware of spoilers! it is, given the context of certain story beats, intended to be read after the main trilogy, or at the bare minimum, after the first book.
