Unlikeable, irritating characters. Would have been a bit disgruntled if I’d paid for it, but it was an Amazon free first read fortunately!

Diving into the first book of the year and I’m pretty disappointed. I thought it was extremely predictable step by step from the get go. I was hoping I was wrong and kept reading and I shouldn’t have. It would’ve been a lot better with a less predictable “twist”

Wow, another "thriller" I hated, I need to quit reading these. Same problem with this one - just a bunch of awful characters doing stupid things.

Jane Doe was one of the best books I read in 2018, so I had incredibly high expectations for False Step. Unfortunately, it fell just a bit flat for me. Still a compulsive, interesting read with complicated and fallible characters.

Took me 3 months to read, between reading other books, so clearly it wasn't the most engaging. Honestly it was like the boom version of daytime soaps. But it was interesting enough that I did want to know how it ended.

Far too easy to guess the ending. I hate when I guess the end

I FINISHED THE BOOK. That was so miserable and I hate all the characters. There was nothing even remotely likable about anyone, and this is such a departure from the author’s previous book, JANE DOE.

The audiobook narrator was good, but I don’t know if it was because of the whiny narration for Veronica and even Sydney, that I just winded up not being a fan of the narration either.

Veronica is the exact opposite of Jane. Veronica is stuck in a loveless marriage with her high school sweetheart, Johnny, and has a 10-year-old kid. Johnny is your bro stereotype - a trainer at the gym, and maybe not the smartest man ever. Their marriage is on the rocks and Veronica keeps rationalizing that they just need to stick it out for a few more years until Sydney is older, and then they’ll get divorced.

When her husband becomes the local hero and just so happens to find a missing child, secrets start to unravel about her and Johnny’s life.

The mystery wasn’t hard to guess and I got it right pretty early on, but it’s the WHY I still don’t understand. Was it just because of money and stress? Maybe that’s all the motivation needed. But there just wasn’t that deep satisfaction of something done RIGHT at the end of this book, like there was with Jane Doe.

Instead, this book was a miserable drag and I would not recommend it.

Trigger warnings for rape, cheating, abuse, and violence.

Suspenseful and page-turning describe my Kindle First pick for June. Lies, betrayal, and secrets abound in this story, leading to an explosive climax. Even though I had an inkling what was going to happen, it still took me by surprise. Each decision the character makes and each revelation sinks our MCs into a deeper and deeper hole, until there is only one choice left for all of them, to get out in one piece.

Personal bias but I was excited to see the FMC's occupation as an occupational therapist! Being in the therapy field myself, it's exciting to see us get some recognition.

It's told from third person POV of the wife, Veronica. Less one star because I really didn't like her for most of the book. I thought she was jealous and selfish, but she did redeem herself at the end. Did not disappoint!

Suspenseful but also predictable. I rate it 3.5 stars as it held my attention and was entertaining.
