Sometimes romances can be frustrating in that a host of problems could be solved if the couple just talked to each other about the thing, whatever it may be, so it was rather refreshing that the "use your words" portion was directed towards Ash and his brothers (while also recognizing that the words to use just wouldn't have been known).

4.5 stars for enjoyment - nothing groundbreaking going on with the literature here, but it was amazingly fun to read!

Heroine took some warming up to, but I grew to love her as I got to know her. Hero was spectacular, I loved him in every way. By the end, they were one of my favorite historical-romance duos I've ever read.

3 1/2 stars really. Wonderful at times but the slow pace in the middle almost made me not finish.

Ash Turner is motivated by love and revenge. Margaret Dalrymple by loyalty. Ash is determined to prove Margaret and her brothers illegitimate, and himself the rightful heir to the dukedom. Although Ash doesn't know who Margaret really is, he is determined to have her. While Margaret's secrets complet her to keep her distance.

This book was SUPERB!

First - Ash:

- His dedication to his family is amazing. I can definitely understand (in large part to Milan's writing) how this is both a good and bad characteristic of Ash's personality. His love for his brothers is completely endearing.

- The way he treats Margaret from day 1, ah. I love it. He's respectful of her as he tries to figure out what it is that exists between them.

Margaret:

- Her character development is WONDERFUL. The monologue she has towards the end of the novel when she's speaking with her father? Utter perfection. The full spectrum of her development arc becomes apparent with this one scene. You can't help but stand up and cheer at the inner strength that she's developed in herself.

Milan's hooked me as a fan for life with this one novel.

Storyline

Unveiled focuses on Ash Turner, a man in desperate need of revenge after the Dalrymple family ruined his life. After he propositions to have the current Duke removed and have Ash replace him, he ends up affecting more lives than he intended. Margaret is a seemingly innocent party but more closely involved in the scandal than Ash is aware of, even after he finds himself falling love with her he still doesn’t know the truth.

Margaret is actually Lady Margaret, the daughter of the current Duke and was declared a bastard when Ash sought to take his place. She originally planned on finding out any and all information that she could in order to get Ash’s case thrown out, but she begins to realize that her feelings are beginning to have an impact on her loyalities.

Characters

I love the intricacies of the characters and how they’re written. Each and every character I’ve read in a Courtney Milan book is detailed, original, and one of a kind. Not only are they unique as people, but the passion and romance between the characters is also quite tangible and incredibly authentic. Ash had his own little quirk that I thought was a great addition to an already fabulous story.

Thoughts

Oh I love a good romance and I continue to be amazed at how much I enjoy Courtney Milan’s books. This is the first book in Courtney Milan’s Turner series, but the 3rd book in the series that I have read. (Read 1.5 then 2 and now 1) Obviously it’s not a requirement to read them in order as the stories are intertwined yet still work as stand-alone books.

With this story, I was immediately drawn in and intrigued at how the author planned on making this storyline ‘okay’. Here’s this girl who basically falls in love with her enemy, and if she decides to be with him she’s essentially betraying her family. Pretty black and white, or so I thought. I loved Courtney Milan knotted everything up only to have everything untangle quite gracefully. The only book I have left in the Turner series is Smite… I intended on hanging on to it for a little while because I’m not looking forward to finishing the series, but I’m not sure how long I’ll be able to wait. She is becoming one of my most favorite authors to date.

Unveiled oh how I did loved you. This is such a great read, but much different from the other books I have read from this author. The other books were fun and funny, just left me smiling so big while reading them. This one was more serious and kind of sad at times which really worked. My heart would break for the characters and I loved pretty much everything about this book.

Ash Turner. Oh how wonderful he was. He is one of those people who is just a great person. Someone who everyone seems to love. Someone who can fit in anywhere. He can have dinner with servants or Duke's and he seems at ease with either. His whole life he has been trying to take care of his brothers at the sacrifice of not having a real relationship with them. He so wants what is best for them and to be a part of their world, but he can't seem to get that close relationship with them that he wants. No matter what he does he can't seem to make up for his past mistakes with them. He recently brought to light that the current Duke's offspring are illegitimate and he is vying to take over the position once the sickly current Duke passes (with no legitimate offspring the title would revert to him). He wants this so much for his brothers as well as for revenge against the current Duke. After all the current Duke has caused hardship for him and his brothers so Ash is not too fond of him.

Besides the duke not being so kind in the past, the dukes sons made his brothers life not so pleasant in school. Really most everyone in that family seems like they are not the nicest people. Except Margaret. Margaret is a sweetheart, though she needs to learn to accept what is happening and not let it define her. She has stayed back at the manor to spy on Ash for her brothers when he comes to visit. She is posing as a servant and is hoping Ash will be this terrible person so she can help her brothers get their title back. She needs this as what will become of her if Ash succeeds in his quest? Unfortunately Ash is an amazing person. From the first moment he saw Margaret he knew she was special and she was for him. He would do whatever he could to be with her.

At first Margaret is not so nice to Ash, but he never seems to mind. He is the first person since she lost everything to really see her. He encourages her to be who she wants to be and not let her lot in life dictate who she is. He doesn't care if she was born a servant or a queen she can do whatever she wants. He wants her to paint her own canvas and not let anyone else tell her what to paint, or even let them paint it for her.

Ash is amazing in this book. He gives Margaret whatever she needs. When she pleads with him to stop talking to her he stops talking to her. She was always so sure that he would just take what he wanted, especially since he told her that first day he wanted to kiss her, but he never does. He wants her to come to him. He doesn't want to force anything on her. He wants it to be her decision. There are many times throughout the story where Margaret wants Ash to just do what he wants so she doesn't have to make the hard decisions, but he won't. He is so great for her!

Then she is sure once he find out who she is he will want nothing to do with her. She is conflicted the whole time as to whose side to be on, Ash or her brothers. She can't imagine pushing her brothers aside, but she also doesn't want to be without Ash. The whole time you are waiting to see what happens when he finds out she is the duke's daughter. He keeps telling her that he doesn't care what her full name is, who her family is, what she was born into. He knows her and wants her no matter who she is. **spoiler alert** When Ash finds out who she is it doesn't matter to him. If anything he feels terrible for saying some mean things about her to her when he didn't know it was she he was talking about. He is the one apologizing to her and it is incredible. He really is such a great person.

Throughout the story you get to see a lot of Ash and what makes him him. He has some secrets, some things not even his brothers know which he feels keeps him from having that strong relationship with them. It is heartbreaking watching him try and form those bonds with his brothers only to have them not understand everything it is taking for him to do simple things they take for granted. Really there were a lot of heartbreaking parts, but it was so great. Even once everything is on the table it takes a while for Ash and Margaret to work everything out. Even though they love each other it is not as simple as just being together since her brothers are fighting for their title. You keep reading and it is just like how are they ever going to figure this out to the point where they can get their happily ever after? It happens and boy was I glad when it did. Those brothers of Margaret are so selfish. And the epilogue! Oh Ash is simply amazing. You can just see how much he loves Margaret. Such a great read. Not the fun lightheartedness of the other books, but amazing none the less.
