Mavis is gonna get herself in some serious trouble!
I didn’t like this one as much as the first and I have a feeling there’s going to be a third. I might listen to it just to see if Mavis & Cory rekindle things but the change of and high pitched voices were even more annoying this time around. I figured the plot out maybe about half way through but had to see it through til the end.

LOVED this - I loved It’s Elementary but I think this was even better for me?! I can’t wait for her next one (literally started trying to research release dates, fruitlessly obviously since this literally JUST came out). Elise Bryant’s voice is so sharp and funny, and Aure Nash’s narration is truly perfection — she captures all of Mavis’s and Pearl’s nuance, and the breathy evil of PTA moms and the fake-zen MLM people. Just SO good, with so many zany side characters (new and old!), plus beautiful continues arcs for Mavis and her close family and friends that we have come to love. I love the budding love triangle and can’t wait to see how it develops! In the meantime I’ve downloaded one of EB’s romances to tide me over.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 (4.5 stars)
Our girl Mavis is back—and this time, she’s dodging neighborhood MLM huns (looking at you, Bethany) while solving yet another murder.
Fresh off her neighborhood hero status, Mavis is juggling a newly single life, her daughter’s jam-packed schedule, a budding romance, and an underwhelming day job at a nonprofit where she’s chronically overlooked. And if that weren’t enough, her daughter’s soccer coach suddenly drops dead after a Saturday game...yikes.
Naturally, Mavis gets pulled into the investigation while also trying to reinvent herself as a self-care queen. The usual cast returns, including her hilarious father, who—along with his retired bestie—has pivoted their Law and Order recap podcast to something more trendy (I would absolutely subscribe, by the way).
While the mystery itself isn’t particularly hard to crack, Elise Bryant delivers exactly what I came for: a perfect balance of cozy and chaos, with just the right amount of absurdity to make you laugh out loud.
What I love most about this series is how relatable Mavis is—from wrangling my kids’ endless activities to aspiring to be a self-care baddie, I see so much of myself in her. Elise was already an auto-buy author for me before this series, and I’ll keep reading anything she writes.
If you love cozy mysteries and enjoy seeing pyramid schemes get what’s coming to them, this is the book for you.
Big thanks to @berkleypub for the free e-ARC in exchange for my honest review!

My girl Mavis is back, and she’s diving headfirst into her amateur sleuth era! I had an absolute blast with this cozy mystery, Elise really knows how to take us on a thrilling ride! I'm beyond excited that she’s embraced the cozy mystery genre, and she nails it by weaving in themes of parenting, romance, and authentic self-care. I was on the edge of my seat guessing the whole way through! When the big reveal hit, I literally dropped my jaw!
And let me tell you, this story brilliantly explores just how far some parents will go when their kids aren’t getting the star roles. If you thought Trisha was a handful, just wait until you meet these parents!! They put her to shame!!! And Bethany is something else!!! The weaponization of them tears was something else!! If you haven't snagged a copy of this gem by Elise yet, you need to grab it NOW! Trust me, you won't want to miss this!
