This one got off to a rocky start with me. Time travel is just not my jam. If I’m being honest I still don’t understand the logic in this one lmao but that aside, this book really ended up coming through for me. Ren is a badass and I love the way she holds on to her power. I also loved Munro and his big heart, even though he did not act on it the best at first
“Panic. Panic. PANIC.”
Io ogni secondo della vita
✿ Quanto ho aspettato questo libro? Circa 7 anni. Ah no?

worth the wait
I tried so hard to read slowly and savor this book, but Kresley made it impossible. While parts of REN’s character irritated me initially, I came to understand and appreciate her. Kresley does a fantastic job showing both characters POV. The story unfolded in a natural manner, where Munro and Ren were able to understand each other and work together. I’m looking forward to many more books in this series.

I liked this book A LOT, even though I have to say I wish some things would have been developed more, like Munro’s son, Ren’s parents, etc. Nonetheless, Munro and Ren’s relationship was perfect and I loved the cameos/mentions of previous IAD couples/characters.
Lothaire is still my favorite comedian and Nïx my favorite soothsayer.
And OMG that epilogue!!! OMG!!!!!
Kresley CERTAINLY came back with a bang

You are in for one hell of a ride! So good! Ren is such an amazing character. I loved her no non-sense, take no bull attitude. That last line will knock you over.
Look, I'm 18 books into IAD, and I have no intention of stopping. Every time I read something utterly ridiculous in these books like:
Every time I read something like that, I flirt with the idea of stopping.
But then Nix shows up, or a character from 8 books ago does something interesting, or Nix shows up, or [a:Kresley Cole|4428|Kresley Cole|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1328377628p2/4428.jpg] teases me with a new character/character pairing, or Nix shows up, or we are introduced to a new plot thread, or Nix shows up...
So yeah. I just gasp and giggle and order the next book (as soon as I possibly can).
Nix is just...

All the stars, every last one, for Nucking Futs Nix, every damn time. (And a good half star for Desh, the nicest demon of them all.)
Anyway. This book. Right. It's the 18th book in the series, so expect rambling, (vague) spoilers and incoherence below.

The romance plots on IAD follow a simple enough pattern -- man (ahem, sorry, excuse me) Male meets Female (sometimes of indeterminate species). Male decides/realises/senses that female is his Fated Mate. Shennanigans happen in the course of saving one or both parties lives from Bad Guys. In the process there is usually some cock-blockage, some convincing-her-she's-his-mate, often past traumas are uncovered and/or glossed over, one or more heads are severed, limbs are lost (and regrown), fierce kisses are exchanged, painfully erect nipples 'peak' constantly, penises get more and more engorged, and things get bitten (necks, dicks, breasts, clits, anything that can be, will be bit--never underestimate Kresley).
I like most of Kresley's heroines and dislike most of her heroes. Ren is cool, fierce and stubborn; while Munro is stubborn, stupid and ignorant until the very end. All standard Kresley stereotypes really, except that Ren is one of only two human characters in IAD. I am going to have to stick this one into my 'ruined by romance' category because, well, I'd have liked about 250% more Nix and Accession and about 95% less Munro and Ren because I feel like Ren's storyline did nothing to expand my knowledge of the larger Lore world in IAD.
In the midst of all this romance stuff, Nix, one of the best fantasy creatures it has been my privilege to read, moves in the background. She sets events, large and small and hilarious, into motion, keeping this crazy plot moving forward through eighteen books. Even when individual IAD books are boring, IAD the series is never boring. There is constant forward motion through the overarching Accession plot that connects this series together.
I read the first 13 IAD books in a mad 12-day sprint in 2017 (until I finally came to my senses and rationed the four remaining books over 2 months). This is the first book I've had to wait for. I didn't much care about Munro (or the Lykae in general, actually. Give me a valkyrie, witch or demon any day). But what little Kresley gave me of Nix has been all the more eager to stick with the series.
A big part of me wishes I could just get one (or three) non-romance centred book all about Nix, or even one (or three) romances just about Nix and Orion (it's got to be him, right?). I trust that Kresley has a plan for the series, but I'm not so keen on her decision to continue expanding the series after [b:Sweet Ruin|24002318|Sweet Ruin (Immortals After Dark, #15)|Kresley Cole|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1430651869l/24002318._SX50_.jpg|43602301] rather than pairing up the main characters and tying off those threads. But I like this world enough that I will keep going.
Also, and this is a big plus: IAD is genuinely (intentionally and otherwise) laugh-out-loud funny. I'm not a huge paranormal reader, mostly because too many paranormal romances take themselves too seriously. For me, IAD sits in the sweet spot between crazy over-the-top hilarious and crazy over-the-top unacceptable.
I've given each individual book before this one 2 stars. This one is getting a 4 as an overall series rating (the romance/internal plot is hovering at a 1.5, mostly because Ren spent most of the book being boringly human).
She murmured, “Circus secret.” Sayer-kiss. Sexy little Transylvanian! If she whispered that in his ear, he’d come in his pants.
OR
He moved far too close to her, until his oversized member was directly in front of her. Oh, Doamne. Oh, God.
OR, oh, doamne, oh, god, this magnificent bit of what the fuckery:
Her glistening flesh matched the shade of her nipples, her wee clit begging for a tongue-lashing. His mouth watered for her tight core, his shaft aching to claim the virginity he could see.
When her channel quivered before his eyes, he licked his lips in anticipation, a ravening wolf about to feast on his mate.
Every time I read something like that, I flirt with the idea of stopping.

Normally I'd have rated this lower, but a new IAD book! After 5 years!! I'm incapable of rational rating lol.
She’s Back!
This book was a long time coming and what a journey KC took us on! I feel like it takes a special kind of author to write a series of fated mates stories that don’t eventually repeat themselves. The banter we’ve come to know and love, the adventure and of course the heat! Reading and listening to this book was like coming home, curling up in that comfiest spot. I laughed, I cried and I had absolute chills through some parts. I can’t wait to see what she gives us next!

I was bored and completely uninterested — had to force myself to finish the book. :\
