Nothing is better than more Immortals After Dark. This is what I told myself back in November when we heard that Kresley Cole was releasing Munro after a long hiatus from publishing. I was wrong. There is one thing better than more IAD ... it's fated mates IAD with the sweetest of cinnamon roll heroes and full falling in love goodness.
The time travel aspect worked so well for me, blending the possessive and protective nature of the Lykae with the fierce and fiery stubbornness of Ren's humanity. Cole can do no wrong.
ARC received from author in exchange for honest review.

So excited to finally have another IAD book! While this one didn’t end up being one of my favourites m, it was still a very enjoyable read. Kereny is a kick ass heroine. I love that she starts out as a monster hunter in the 20s (she runs a circus where the performers are all monster hunters…very cool) which of course leads to a lot of the conflict between her Monro. Oh Monro. I just wanted to smack this sweetie upside the head so many times.
This book lost a star in the first half, where it felt a little to samey to other books in the series for me but she pulled it back in the second half (partly because we get a nice long cameo with Lothaire)
Now we must return to desperately waiting for the next book with that cliffhanger at the end of the epilogue! Why!

Okay, FIRST OF ALL. The reset to Munro and Ren’s story after the sneak peak we got at the end of MacRieve really annoyed me. I feel like KC had in mind the story she wanted to write for them then changed her mind. I wish we hadn’t gotten that epilogue a few books back because I was expecting a volatile she-wolf who hated her mate for turning her. The story we did get just didn’t live up to that idea in my head.
As disappointed as I was though, I did enjoy Munro and Ren’s romance. They still had a volatile start, though I felt like it lacked any real chemistry. Their quest to steal La Dorada’s ring (Munro to wish Ren immortal and Ren to wish herself back to her time) was fun - I loved the morality question at play with this plot. Does Munro turn Ren immortal against her wishes? Does Ren go back in time for her own happiness when there’s a possibility she’ll ruin the happiness of her loved ones? The best fantasy novels are based in human problems, and the problems Munro and Ren faced are easily related to.
The best part of the newer books in this series is the rapidly moving Accession plot. We’re getting so much information now, and I’m both anticipating and dreading the climax of Nix’s efforts.
Spice: 3/5

You can feel the author’s lack of interest in this series. Nothing interesting happens, and the characters are not well developed at all.
Plot: Munro (captured werewolf twin) travels back in time where his mate is a carnival monster hunter. She becomes a werewolf, and has twins.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A book I devour without moderation =D
What I particularly liked :
- the universe which as usual is extremely rich with all the factions and their different agendas (I loved the little glimpses of Nïx who is already moving her pawns in anticipation of the future big battle !)
- the plot with all the time-traveling and the creepy sect (I loved seeing the nymphs in a different light !!)
- the two main characters that I loved! Kereny was so funny but also badass (despite being a human living in such a more dangerous world !) and of course Munro who was as pfioulala as I expected (werewolf + Scottish accent = <3 < 3)
In short, another great book in a series that I read much too quickly ... I can't wait to have Kristoff's book which I hope will be the next =D (Well no it's not true, I loved having the one with Nïx but I don't really believe it'll be the next one ><)
It's finally here! It's been devoured and read! Munro was so good! So glad KC is back!
As many others, I've been waiting for Munro for 5 years. Desperate for it to come out. This series is my favorite series, which just made the wait that much tougher. Thank the Gods I had all of them on audio and physically, I could reread them whenever I felt like I wanted to revisit the characters and the world.
Back when this was announced that it was coming out in January 2022, I was holding my breath a little bit, I didn't want to get my hopes up too high, we had other release dates and they went away, but then when the pre-orders were available I started freaking out. Excited doesn't even begin to describe how I felt when the pre-orders went up. Within a couple days, I requested the day off from work for when this was released. That's not something I do...ever, but this release was special. Knew without a doubt that I couldn't go to work, knowing this was on my kindle, and stay focused.
It was such a joy being back in this world.
Munro just broke my heart in the beginning.
Kereny/Ren was a human badass, we don't get a lot of those in this world but she was a take no prisoners kind of woman. I liked that even though she had a clear bias against loreans, for good reason, after a certain point she would give loreans a chance and didn't kill them when they were decent to her.
I adored the couple of scenes we had with Nix and the scenes with Lothaire and Ellie. These 3 I can never get enough of. Any time we can spend in Dacia with the characters we've met in previous books is a fun time.
There was a reveal at the end, that I was wondering if/when we'd find that out. I was hoping I was right and I legit squealed when it was a revealed.
Also, Munro just made me melt when he was going to make his sacrifice to be with Ren. I loved him so much already and that just made me love him more.
There were a couple things that kept this from being a five stars. That may change when I reread this a couple times but for now these things kept it from being a five stars.
First, I was a little confused at times because of the newlings, I understood that they were new lykae that had essentially given into their beast, couldn't control their beast, but for some reason the term "newling" was throwing me off.
Second, I wish there was more romance, more moments when Munro and Ren were more touchy and affectionate. A lot of this story was going from place to place but their romance kind of felt a little on the backburner. It was still there, there was still a good amount but I just wanted it to be a little more at the forefront of the story.
Overall I absolutely loved being back in this world. I read this all in one day. I have the audio book, which I'll listen to soon, so happy Robert Petkoff is narrating Munro, I loved it.
Very curious to find out who the next couple is going to be. I can't wait!
I really don’t think we’re getting Munro this year, yes, we still have half the year of 2020 left but it’s past the last changed release date and we have had zero updates from the author or the publisher.
I don’t need personal details on what’s going on in Kresley’s life that’s making this not be published right now but it would be nice if the publisher or author said something, even a statement as brief and vague as ‘There are some things happening, the book won’t be published yet, we don’t have a firm date, it may not ever be out, but we will update you eventually’. At least that would give me some information. This silence and constantly pushing dates and then not making those dates is, IMO, more damaging than if someone posted a vague statement.
I love and adore this series, it’s one of my favorite series, definitely my favorite PNR series, and no matter when this book is published, I will read it, I will buy both a paperback and a hardback copy, and hopefully Robert Petkoff is doing the narration, but whether he is or isn't, I'll buy the audiobook too, and I will, hopefully, love it.
There have been a handful of books in my life that I have been waiting for longer than this one (1 from the mid-late 90’s), so I can wait a good long time for this one too. Don’t want to but it can be done. However, just some communication would be nice.
Also, if the last Arcana book comes out before this one, I might be a little salty...
What he had to do to Ren and other humans, biting them in "hopes" of changing them, plus when Ren didn't awaken, and he was made to dump her body in the acid. Sigh. So anticipated, but strangely not as fun of a read for me as I'd hope. I'm hoping hearing the upcoming Fated Mates episode/party will unpack my feelings more.
Spoilers, ho!
Spoilers, ho!
Munro having to actually witness Kereny dying and then flinging her into the acid was so awful and emotional, so I understood how determined he was to find and protect her, but I feel like the plotline between him and the wizards was sort of unexplored and then quickly resolved in the last act. I liked seeing other characters I adore, but everyone seemed to pop out just in the nick of time to fix things or offer hope/solutions for our star-crossed couple. Ren being from Transylvania and living in a wagon, and being part of a circus felt like she was Roma or Sinti...but those words were never used (and thankfully at least not a slur), but I was kind of waiting with gritted teeth to see how her ancestry would be handled. The wolf books aren't usually my favorite, and the whole I am now pregnant and might die felt like the recent SJM book. Sigh.
“Let me explain. No: there is too much. Let me sum up” I loved this book! The characters, story, plot, dialog, action, steamy scenes: all fantastic!
Level headed lykae, Munro Macreive is the reserved, think before acting, twin of Hot and Hotter fame (definitely HOTTER to me). Harridan, Kereny (Ren) is a human monster hunter/ circus performer stolen out of time on her wedding day by warlocks who have imprisoned Munro. She’s brave and feisty but also deeply compassionate.
The book is an adventure and it moves quickly with short chapters, while being tightly focused on the relationship building between these two. We get to see them get to know, respect and trust each other and fall in love, not just fated-mates insta-love.
We get to visit some of our favorite characters from previous books and have some plot development on the accession storyline. There is also a trail of breadcrumbs and clues for future stories woven throughout! Did you catch them all? (my book is one big highlight with SO many notes)
It is one of my favorite things where a hero loses his cool over his fated mate. He doesn’t love her because she’s his mate, she’s his mate because he loves her. And while Munro is an absolute alpha, he is the caregiving, almost cinnamon-roll sweet, alpha that I love to see.
